Losingest NFL QB
TNF showed Fitzpatrick's career record at the beginning of the game, and I was shocked to see he is 30 games below .500 as a starter. This got me thinking, who is the losingest QB in NFL history?

I thought I had found some good ones. David Carr was 33 games back. Steve DeBerg was 35 games away.

Then I came across Archie Manning. 66 games below .500. Career record 35-101 (.263).

I realize the Saints were terrible and barely even trying at the time, but that is still insane. No way a team under modern FA and draft rules would keep a QB around for 3 years with that record, let alone 12.

To be fair, Archie wasn't the problem.

Vinnie Testaverde has to be up (down?) there.

I'd take every 1st rd QB from the Browns over the last 10-15 years and just add them together.

I'm surprised Archie hasn't suffered horribly from CTE based on what old timers tell me about his Saints career. Says a lot about his character that he's continued to support the franchise after that misery

Agreed. But neither was Carr in Houston. Economic incentives and public pressure have changed in ways that would make sticking with Archie for 11+ seasons totally unfathomable now.

VT has a ton of 8-8;7-9 seasons. Archie should have been everyone’s first guess.

He was second based on my research. 92-136. 44 games below .500. He had more losses than Archie, but way more wins.

re: Losingest NFL QB
So he's 10 games below .500. Not 66.

That would be another interesting question. Who has the most losses with no wins?

To add to this thought...without his NOLA social status...which largely came from being the starting Saints QB for over a decade...and would never happen today...do his sons get the opportunities they do?

By number of losses, Favre and Eli have to be high on the list.

I don't think owners cared as much about winning back then as they did about the bottom line. Archie was a Southern guy that people loved. He was a good QB by the way too.

When the organization is run in a manner in which winning isn't paramount, nothing is.

Archie stuck around bc the fans liked him. But the organization never put forth the effort to help him succeed either.
