Fertitta said in the past that he would welcome a NHL team to Toyota Center. He said that he wants it used more often... means more $$$

Supposedly, he won't let a team use the Toyota Center unless he owns said team.

I’m sure he would, but knowing how Tillman operates the devil may be in the details and the terms he wants. I can see him being a tough partner for something like this if the NHL team is a separate ownership group.

I haven’t seen this at all, maybe I missed it. Alexander had that stance for sure

The suburbs model makes sense when you have a small city and giant suburbs or the inner city is a giant shithole. Doesn’t make sense at all in Houston context.

That side of downtown still has a ways to go and has it’s issues but the difference now vs before MMP and Toyota is incredible

As for relocation cities

Bring them to San Antonio. Las Vegas poached our minor league team a couple years ago. Plus the Spurs' mascot is already the Coyote.

Make it happen!

Absolutely NOT Atlanta, which is literally the worst pro sports town in this country.

The Hawks averaged 104% capacity at home games this year

The Braves had the 4th highest attendance total in MLB last year, and the teams in front of us have bigger stadium capacities

The Falcons just suck right now and no one wants to watch a god awful product. But they packed their stadium when good, too.

But go off

Didn’t you guys already lose a team on the account of being a shitty sports town?

No. It was lost because Atlanta Spirit Group, the team owners, were a dysfunctional group of assholes who had no interest in owning a competitive team. They were profits first and squabbled as a result with the team moving to Winnipeg to close it all out.

The team won’t be in downtown.

It’s going to be out in the most prosperous part of the state where all the families with money live.

Allegedly they were fricked over by greedy owners not once but twice. Houston lost the oilers since they (the city) didn't want to build a new stadium.

Hasn’t atlanta had two chances to get the nhl right and both times the teams left?

Due to poor ownership, not attendance issues.

But you know, narratives and all that.

The Thrashers were sabotaged by their ownership

That, and they(The Atlanta Spirit) didn't even want the Thrashers. They were an afterthought to the Hawks and it played out like that unfortunately.

partly because the demographics of Atlanta proper aren't favorable to hockey.

While this is true, it's not as true as it was even 15 years ago.

Atlanta proper has become much more gentrified the last 15 years. Especially the SE and East Atlanta neighborhoods. (Grant Park, Summerhill, Kirkwood, E.Atlanta, etc.)
