WTF?

Is there some lost in translation stuff going on here or are you mentally challenged? Is this some ancient Chinese proverb as to why you don’t insult the emperor?

It doesn't put them in harm, but why tweet it out while they are over there? Why even take a risk, even if the risk is minuscule? It really didn't make much sense. Why not tweet it a week before they went?

I've said Morey was an idiot for sending the tweet. There was essentially zero upside and a shite ton of downside. However, once he sent it, the NBA handled it about as poorly as you could possibly imagine. The whole saga has basically been one bad decision being one upped by another.

Morey was China’s girlfriend? Hong Kong is a piece of shite?

I know English isn’t your first language but try harder.

That's the gist of it.

Lik I said in my first post in this thread, LeBron has a point, but he's completely tone deaf and thoroughly hypocritical for not taking a stand.

Another point to make is why did Morey tweet at all? His tweet was the equivalent to "thoughts and prayers" after a disaster. It's not like his tweet would be the check mate in the HK revolution.

Its called going after the entities that can perhaps make a difference? Our Government. I'm not laying the historical missteps with China at the feet of Kerr/ Pop.

Somewhat arrogant to totally dismiss the opions of people , Chinese Nationals, we claim to champion( Not supporting the opinions of this Hager guy/ gal )

Nearly 150 million Chinese Nationals travel internationally each year( not including Hong Kong & Maucau with it's freedoms) & tens of millions of mainland Chinese study abroad . Mainland Chinese have had access to more information than you are willing to accept . They are well aware or have access to uncensored information about Tank Man, Tianamen Square , Zhao,etc....

And you vastly underestimate how much propaganda they receive growing up that tells them to ignore western 'lies' on such topics. The sheer fact that he is holding a pro gov stance (seems that way so far) on 1989 lends credibility to that statement. Just because they have access does not mean they accept it.

My alternative take is that LeBron believes his own press to the point where he can call someone else’s comments ignorant and uneducated while turning around and pleading ignorance of the situation himself.

Not that it really matters, but LeBron clarified on Twitter that he was talking about the consequences of the tweet and not the substance of the matter.

To be honest with you, his clarification is kind of more troubling if you ask me. That one comes off even more self serving, in that it's basically saying "Why couldn't you have just kept your mouth shut while all this cash was coming in?"

If we're going to dismiss the NBA players' safety as an actual concern, and ignore the bullshite about mental and spiritual well being, his only issue was financial. In light of what's actually taking place on the ground in HK, his concern...after clarification...is his money.

Yeah, that CNN footage of government tanks running over protesters were western forgeries.

They were so good that CNN was concocting them live and broadcasting them around the world before the CGI revolution.

”Missteps”?

I’m not laying the fricked up shite that the Chinese government has performed at the feet of Kerr and Pop, but I am laying their own hypocrisy at their feet.

I can’t believe you’re trying to shut down his right to express outrage and bring light to social injustices. That is not what the NBA stands for and that attitude of shut up and manage is despicable and racist.

Exactly. All these tweets are nothing more than virtue signaling and self preservation.

Hell...why does ANYONE Tweet about anything? That's the strangest thing about most news stories in 2019. Nearly every time they either involve someone doing something or did something on social media, or the thing they did was suddenly made worldwide news via social media.

Everyone, from the guy at the deli to the President, think they need to have an official press release for every god damned thing that happens all day long. As such, we get stories like this.

No, I understand perfectly, and I actually agree. There was no need for a decently high ranking person in the NBA to intentionally jab their second largest customer in the eye in the midst of a huge, international shite storm.

There was no benefit to the NBA, who is ultimately his employer, and it actually did put NBA players at risk, however slight, because this is a repressive despot who rules with an iron fist.

But here’s the thing, the NBA has fostered, encouraged, and highlighted speaking truth to power, up to and including comments that sow distrust in police and authority locally.

This thread is not about how much we should trust cops so please let’s not take this there, especially because we’d probably agree a lot more than you think.

all that Social Justice revelation/awakening/revolution was encouraged because it made them money and won them social capital here.

But the moment someone sends out a tweet based on principles that could cost the nba money, suddenly nobody is educated enough, or informed enough, or empathetic enough to comment.
