But what's the reason for this level of dominance by the international players? According to Larry Johnson, it's all about knowing the basics of the game.
"Youngsters, you getting your job taken now by foreigners, right?" LJ said on the All The Smoke podcast. "Cuz you're not getting the fundamentals. You just want to run, jump, and dunk on people. No man, they got these seven footers coming over, shooting threes, and runners, and we don't have that."

Those UNLV teams were fun to watch

granted we’re only seeing the top 0.1% of internationals, but the technical ability they come into the league with is so far and away better than than the average American it’s worth digging into

Maybe not the best year to make this comment. the League just took 2 Euro 7 footers with no skill.
just be tall.

The top 0.0001 percent of US basketball players is still better than the rest of the world combined but the gap is definitely closer than it has been in the past.
Skills and fundamentals are drastically decreasing in the US basketball game from top to bottom only made worse by kids watching Lebron, Curry, Giannis, etc.

LeBron is skilled?
Even if we assume things like vision and basketball IQ aren't skills (which is fair since they're more innate and not something everyone can develop), then going to his handle and passing leads to the decision that he's incredibly skilled. At his peak, his shooting was elite, too.
If the 3 primary skills are dribbling, passing, and shooting he was world class at dribbling and historic at passing for his entire career. I think that counts as "skilled".

I think we have different definitions of skill.

LJ is absolutely right on this. The international kids spend more time in the gym working on fundamentals and playing less games, while the American kids spend most of their time playing games and not working on fundamentals. All of these AAU circuits in America dilute the fundamentals of the game. And the majority of the circuit is simply a money grab.
