Not sure how anyone here would even know since they don’t watch the NBA…

He's spot on. Its streetball, with players having most of the power.

I think we have different definitions of skill.

You don't think dribbling, passing, and shooting are skills?

It's pretty hilarious. Whatever issues actually exist in the modern game, skills aren't one of them. The analytical/strategical advancement of the NBA since the mid-2010s is primarily based on requiring a higher skill level than in the past. Being highly skilled at passing and shooting is at higher requirement levels than I can remember. I didn't include dribbling because certain positions (like the 3-D wing) don't require it and it's not stressed, but for the playmakers the requirement is at elite levels, too.

I heard a quote a long time ago I think it was from MJ but it may have been someone else from that generation. It went something along the lines of "My high school coach taught me the fundamentals, my college coach taught me in depth strategy so I was prepared when I got to the NBA".

To me the issue now is that players get their "fundamentals" in AAU and height at a young age affects the game way more proportionally than it should.

The same affect is happening in baseball now too. Travel ball doesn't teach fundamentals. It is just who can throw curve balls or blow it past everyone.

Easy to look like you have skill when there’s no resistance.

They’re looking for the raw talent because that’s what will play at the next levels, THEN they mold the finer skills. College and pros don’t have time to waste on guys that can’t compete

This is logically backwards. Everyone should get the finer skills, including the ones without the raw talent/size. A high tide lifts all boats.

When AAU becomes the most important season of the year, playing tons and tons of games and losing doesn't matter, skills aren't as important. Size and speed matter. In comparison a high school season of 30 games where winning is important, skills are worked on everyday. But high school basketball is basically a club sport now days because of AAU.

It is a practice vs game issue.

College coaches recruiting want it this way… it’s easier for them to recruit at AAU tournaments out of their season, where they can see all the kids they want against stronger competition and more of them than going to a high school game where you’ll see the kid you want and 9 other kids who don’t belong on the floor with him.

It’s just pesky that no one cares who wins in AAU and everyone cares who wins high school ball.

Efficient doesn't mean better. This is proving my point. The whole system is getting worse because of this.

A 6'9 260lbs guy that can play PG and pass the ball as good as any player in the history of the game. Yes he's very very skilled. Curry as well. Both of them are masters of the fundamentals.

Maybe but the stakeholders have way more money at stake than you. They might disagree

Saw LJ at a dunk contest when he was in high school. He threw the ball off the gym wall, caught it in mid air, and dunked it.
