Looking for his attorney's name I stumbled onto the reddit r/CFB post about this.

It isn't going how I expected that cesspool to react

Fun fact: one of the first lawyers to successfully litigate the asbestos industry graduated from Ole Miss and lives in Oxford. He ended up parlaying that into litigating the tobacco industry and is considered one of the wealthiest lawyers (~$2 Billion) as a result of the settlements. He also might have been disbarred and sent to federal prison for a couple years due to attempting to bribe a federal judge, but who from Ole Miss hasn’t gotten in trouble for paying someone a time or two

It takes a really, really, really shitty attempt at a lawsuit to have everyone in the comments defending Lane Kiffin.

This one is easy for Ole Miss fans. They did (and still do, hilariously) defend Hugh Freeze, after all.

I like that the article pointed out “legally” recorded him without his knowledge. I don’t know Mississippi law, but recording people without knowledge or consent is illegal almost everywhere.

But I don’t see anything wrong with Kiffin here, he said he’d been asking him to come in and talk and the kid hadn’t

Eh, not really. Some states are one-party and some states are two-party.

Exactly. I think it should be both parties know but it's pretty split from my recollection

MS law already posted. It's legal.

Thirty-eight states and the District of Columbia have adopted a “one-party consent” consent requirement.

76% of states

This player sounds like a candyass little bitch. Sounds like he needed to be kicked off the team. But Lane probably shouldn't have even met with him. Once you know he's a flake, get one of the other coaches to cut him and call it a day.

the kid has documentation about his mental health he has every right to go awol

No, no he doesn’t. In his world, he does, and you hope he went awol to get help, but you don’t get the “right” to just get lost when you want to when you are part of an organization that relies on you being there. He can have all the time he needs away from the team now.

No, bubb, you don't. There are steps to take with FMLA. First, you notify your employer of your need for leave. Then, they hand you a WH381 notifying you of your eligibility for FMLA. They'll also hand you a WH380 to have your medical provider confirm the need for leave. If accepted, you then receive a WH382 that approves (or denies, perhaps) the FMLA leave.

In the event of an accepted leave request, the individual on leave has the responsibility to inform the employer of their status and intent to return to work. Going AWOL generally results in job abandonment or voluntary termination.

There's no reason to look as silly as you have in this thread, all of this information is public.

There's also the fact that college athletics are a privilege, not employment, and FMLA doesn't even apply to athletes.

It tells you nothing. What if the kid really does have mental health issues? How do you know he doesn’t?

He might - but it is a calculated decision to weaponize it which you don’t typically see in the truly mentally ill.

Biles isn’t the same as this dude at all. She had the yips and didn’t want to break her neck b/c of it. She tried to work it out and couldn’t so she withdrew.

the way he talked to him for one. if you're the boss you need more professionalism than what he showed especially since he was preaching it.

Huh?

He actually has a point, multiple female athletes at Ole Miss were excused for mental health reasons. His claim is that the athletic department discriminated against him because he was a man.

If some one is being overly polite and bizarrely calm, they are probably recording you.
