I think its the fact if you find from Sheriffs department, whoever, that you have time to find details. Ask questions. Not listen to speculation on the television. There is a bit of finite assurances to the situation.

it also appears as though this flight never should have been approved for take off in the first place

Have the other 2-3 victims been identified? Seems strange it’s taking this long if 9 is the real number.

xactly wonder if it was Kobe who said frick it with Mamba mentality or the pilot sold him into doing it
I doubt it. Heli was his method of getting around and he'd been doing it for years. He's probably made hundreds if not thousands of flights in that area and not all in perfect weather either. I doubt there was any thought or pressure of frick it, we are going weather be damned. It was just his routine, no different than us getting in a car and heading out... The smart thing would have been to stay on the ground and wait for better weather conditions, but they didn't. As it were, they ran into very bad conditions and the pilot was not able to safely navigate them out of those conditions. Turning south into a mountainous area in foggy conditions was fatal.

The pure terror of getting an influx of all the different texts and notifications would be too much to handle.
“I’m so sorry your dad is dead.”
“ONFG IS THIS TRUE?!”
“Uhm, idk how to ask this. Do you see TMZ?”
“No way this is true. Oh my god this isn’t true right?”
*ESPN: Kobe Bryant is dead.*
I imagine it was some combination of 100’s of texts and messages like that while the family truly didn’t know much information at all or what was even going on. Plus tons of the information coming out was wrong. So you have people texting you about false reports and have no clue what’s going on with your family unless you’re standing right next to them.
While horrible, the sheriff informing you would be worlds better.

How does anyone know if his family found out via TMZ?
The report came out like 2 hours after the crash.

Talking more about the pilot. Seems like this one was not prepared for this situation

I was driving home a few times recently at night after work. The fog was so thick I could maybe see 10 feet in front of me. Fog is no joke.

The crash was 9:45 am PST. That’s 11:45 here. The TMZ came out at like 1:30 here.

Generally, I'd think law enforcement is a better way to get this information if you are next of kin. They are trained to deliver news of this nature in a respectful manner and probably would have been accompanied by some type of grief counselors given the nature of the victims. It would have also given the family a moment to brace themselves before the onslaught of media coverage. Flipping on the TV and seeing reports of your husband and 13 year old daughter's demise and everyone expressing their shock and sorry before you found out would be unimaginable.

To be fair most of us are not Kobe level famous either. I am sure that has something to do with how fast that info got out.

Right
How the frick does that happen

Unlike many other organizations, they reported factual, newsworthy information.
Damn the human and ethical costs of doing so and regardless of what kind of impact it would have on the families involved.
That's TMZ's business model here and what you're defending here.

Likely a first responder or someone in dispatch that was strapped for cash.
