Holy cow, I just looked at his college record. I thought he did better at Texas Tech.
How tf did he get an NFL job, nepotism? Blackmail?
Through 6 seasons, he had a record of 35-40, and he jumped straight to an NFL HC position, not even a coordinator position.
Nobody can convince me that with his collegiate record, he was the most qualified man for the job when he got hired.

Always had the impression he’s too much a players coach and enjoys the spoils more than the work.

Keim and Bidwill looked at what SF had done with Shanahan, and LAR had done with McVay. They were looking for a dynamic offensive mind who could serve as HC/OC. KK had that resume of offensive success, and there was thinking that he could be successful when paired with a competent DC.
To be honest, Kliff turned around a really bad Cardinals team when Steve Wilks was fired, and made them very good, very fast. Looks like it was all smoke and mirrors, but if he were to be fired this season, he's leaving a better foundation than he inherited.

Mahomes effect. Cardinals had the #1 pick and it was going to be Kyler. They were sold that Kliff was a "QB whisperer" and, IIRC, McVay and/or Shanny spoke well of him. It was all about protecting the investment in Kyler.

Honestly I think his time in the NFL has removed all the luster on his offensive mind (at least on the NFL level).
He doesn't use motion well and doesn't move his WRs around. Just basic stuff. He's clearly stubborn as shite about it, too.

Gene Stallings did it. Coincidentally he also coached the Arizona Cardinals.
Had a pretty mediocre tenure at A&M and got fired, wound up on Tom Landry’s staff, became the head coach of the Cardinals, got fired in ‘89 and immediately got the Alabama job.

Kliff didn't do shite. The difference was having Kyler instead of Josh Rosen and Keim fleecing the Texans for Hopkins.

Stallings was a great coach at a terrible Cardinals franchise. That generation of Bidwells was even more god awful than this one. And the end of the 80s was even more chaotic because of the dwindling fan support in the face of poor ownership eventually resulted in the team moving to Arizona.

So the coach got fired for groping a woman. Must have been pretty egregious and with eye witnesses bc he was fired next morning.
