Ahead of the curve as always. Everyone else will be following suit before long.

I remember when I was going to UNL and if I had a football player in a gen Ed class most of the time they'd hardly show up. Usually every other week, midterm and final.

When I was at Alabama, peak Saban era, every football player was in there every class with some grad assistant checking their attendance.

I don’t know how some passed because they were dumb as bricks, but they made them show up.

I’ve been told it is no longer this way, and that it started to change even before Saban retired.

I predicted this a few years ago when the transfer and NIL stuff started heating up. If college sports (big 3) stay on this path then they'll end up as separate organizations that are merely affiliated with universities. Private athletic clubs with lifetime lease agreements for university facilities.

This has all the makings of a disaster.
Every decision will be made with cost and returns in mind. They'll probably go all Amity Island, and make teams play football during a lightning storm.

Many love to shite on non-revenue sport athletes but they’re the only ones doing it for the reasons we all fell in love with college sports and sports in general..

Love of school. Love of the spirit of competition. Love of the sport. Love of the lessons learned about life. Keeping your honor win or lose. Memories of digging it out of the dirt with your brothers (or sisters).

Drag away but it’s the truth.

I wonder if it’s possible for the p5’s that can afford this to go their own way and the rest of the schools can go back to the way things used to be. I’d almost rather that at this point.

College athletes as we once knew it is over and it’s not coming back.

Time to start supporting your smaller, hometown college as opposed to the larger state schools.

Would the athletic department no longer be subject to Title IX if a private entity?

Obviously it's going to be interesting to see if these players are now technically players/employees instead of "student-athletes", but i wonder if the SEC and ncaa needed to sign off on this.

This is what I've been hoping for. Unfortunately, I have no connection to any school that is going to fall into the latter, so total free agent I guess.

This path could lead to athletics being technically split off from the university, but the university licenses use of their logos and facilities to the private entity

It's inevitable and I'm very sure the plan all along. No way universities can keep the academics happy flat out paying athletes with university money they could only dream of being gifted. With the liberal infestation amongst the academic wing of universities, there's no way they're going for that too long. Wealth redistribution always has those that feel on the short end. It's why it's doomed to fail long term. Marxists always eat each other eventually. That's all before ever getting into the "sex" discussion. Funny they only ever care about girls rights when it involves being handed hoards of unearned, undeserved money.

So with a separate entity get ready for the players who are at football LLC but not actual students at the university

Sounds like Kentucky is the first school to finally be honest and admit that big time college athletics is purely a financial business and has nothing to do with academia at all.

Weird how every major college in the country is gonna end up running their own professional sports entity on the side.
