Weis fricked them hard to the point where they had like 39 scholarship players when Beaty took over.

Weis should be in prison for all the money he conned from Florida and Kansas.

Don't they still have the Tony Hull on staff? He's a former high school coach from NOLA who's got quite a few guys from Louisiana to come there

He had some very good Louisiana signees in the 2018 class and had a 4 star QB from NOLA committed until just recently. It will be interesting to see if he can pull more this year

To be honest, I honestly think Kansas scraps their program in the next 4 or 5 years.

Mangino took them to the Orange Bowl (and won it) in 2007. Kansas will never win a national title but there's no reason they can't compete on the same level as Iowa State. They need a coach who isn't atrocious.

Yep and they also had solid teams under Glen Mason in the 90s.

I think they should go to a flexbone offense. It would be a big change of pace from the rest of the Big XII and hard to prepare for.

If K State can put together a respectable team most years in the middle of a wheat field, Kansas should be able to do it on the doorstep of the KC metro area.

Could't be further from the truth. Two totally different programs with entirely different mentalities. K-State built their reputation on JUCO transfers and rural area walk-ons who wanted to work hard. Guys who knew the game but didn't have the measurables. The whole community supports the program. They do a great job of brining in Alumni support. There is much more passion around KSU athletics as a whole than there is at KU.

KU has such a pretentious fanbase and student body. Their alumni don't do shite to support football. They have their hoity toity mindset about basketball and win their national championship when the Big 12 trophy returns to Lawrence. The KC metro connection doesn't do anything and their walk-ons are laughable compared to K-State. Look at places like KSU, Iowa, Utah. That stuff matters at schools that aren't gonna pull elite talent.

KU's demise happened very quickly. They went 11-1 with Mangino in 08, 8-5 the next year, and started 5-0 the following year. The finished that season 5-7. Mangino gets fired and then they hire the politically correct option in Turner Gill.

That was my freshman year and my roommate was a walk-on LB. Turner came in and tried to run a military type approach at a school that needed every warm body he could get. He started cutting people left and right. He benched guys who had played and lost the team. By the time the season rolled around they were screwed and the snowball hasn't quit rolling since. At the same time, their AD was in a scandal that led to his termination and subsequent buyout. Their was just a complete lack of leadership from the very beginning. Then they make the mistake of hiring Weis.

So it happened really quickly, but it was a lack of leadership and poor hires. When Beaty came in they were still paying like 3 coaches. Complete dumpster fire all around.

How much longer can David Beaty survive? His record there is 3–33 (.083)

And Kansas wouldn't even hire Orgeron.

You don't need a full 85 to win 4 games in 3 years. Also who does their scheduling, why have they gone to MAC schools in back to back seasons?

Not only did they have less than half of the scholarship players teams they were playing had but most of their players weren’t P5 quality. They have basically been playing with a glorified fcs roster.

I saw where a lot of their fans were excited at the possibility of getting Bielema when they hired Jeff Long as AD.

Wonder how that would go

I think this is the fear of what might happen to LSU. We will never be "Kansas-bad", but the bad leadership and poor hire are already in place...I just hope this time next year we aren't also paying 3 coaches.

I've never hidden that I dislike KU and their fans. As a student of the University, I had a pretty front row seat to the type of people I'm referencing. I live in Lawrence now. I'm not a KSU fan either. I think their program has been at it's ceiling for a long time now and it will be interesting to see when Snyder is no longer around. As it pertains to this conversation, I just don't think it's very hard to see the delta between KSU & KU football and why it exists.

Not surprising since they've won 9 games in the last 5 years.
