What's the difference between a player punching a player and a coach punching a coach?

If he punched a player, then he should be banned for life.

If he punched a contemporary, he should get more than 5 games, but I'm not sure I feel like he should be fired.

Note its just regular season. 5 fricking games.

He'll be back for the B1G tourney and the NIT.

Charmin soft by Michigan. But I'm not shocked.

Are you really comparing a basketball coach hitting another coach to a hockey fight?

Hockey fight is probably more dangerous than Howard's little bitch slap that he tried to act like was a punch by making a fist after an open-hand slap.

If anything he should be fired for being a bitch.

ETA: And me bringing up the hockey fight was in response to the poster who said if he threw a punch at work, he'd be fired.

If they were a tournament team, they would probably be OK with Phil Martelli running things. But, they won't make it, anyway.

If they fired him, I was thinking Beilein should come back. But, I think he is pushing 70.

What is with the rapid decline of UM basketball from last season to this one?

Fair enough. I agree that some are definitely overreacting but it isn't outrageous to think he could /should lose his job over it. I'd say the same about wade. Coaches aren't perfect but they're still leading a group of kids and you can't be that mentally weak while holding that position

It has nothing at all to do with being “dangerous”, imo. Cute little precedent they’re setting, though.

Players frequently physically interact.

Coaches literally never physically interact outside of a handshake. Also coaches are supposed to leaders. Like it or not they are held to different standards.

They had a nice mix of vets last year with young guys. People thought just because they have a great recruiting class on paper that they would be even better, but that was a mistake. They have no shooting. Losing Livers, Wagner, and Brown was tough to overcome.

Because they can slide someone over to cover your spot on the fryer.

This guy coaches a basketball program that generates several million dollars per year.

Yours is a false equivalency.

No firing, wow.

That’s like a 5 game suspension

If anyone on here punched/slapped someone at work, we’d be fired without hesitation

There are unique circumstances at play here.

They'll suspend him now, and then "amicably" part ways after the season is over.
