quote:

"It's a f---ing joke," Verlander said. "Major League Baseball's turning this game into a joke. They own Rawlings, and you've got Manfred up here saying it might be the way they center the pill. They own the f---ing company. If any other $40 billion company bought out a $400 million company and the product changed dramatically, it's not a guess as to what happened. We all know what happened. Manfred the first time he came in, what'd he say? He said we want more offense. All of a sudden he comes in, the balls are juiced? It's not coincidence. We're not idiots."

quote:

"I hate the way I feel out there," Verlander told ESPN. "No matter who's the batter, I feel like I'm constantly walking a tightrope, because any batter can go opposite field. Any batter can leave with any pitch that's anywhere in the zone. You can't miss barrels anymore. You have to miss bats. There's been multiple times this year where five years ago I'd probably just throw a fastball away. I can't do that. Because you're the 8-, 9-hole hitter and you still can hit an opposite-field homer."

He's right they juiced it, he's wrong that it's ruining the game.

The game has been pretty great to him and he has had a ton of success. Not really sure what he's crying about.

How many guys at the break are pacing for near or a above 50 home runs? And were on consecutive months with the most home runs hit?

MLB wants offense, specifically home runs. They want to engage the social media generation that has the attention span of a gnat. 3-2 pitching don't make for retweets and other social media engagement that they feel grows the game. It's ironic that Manfred has been trying to sell this shite about increasing pace of play while also low key increasing high scoring games with a different ball and talking about banning shifts.

Verlander seems like the kind of guy who would think he wouldn’t have given up a home run to anyone if it weren’t for those meddling juiced balls.

It’s funny to me that pitchers complain about literally anything to do with someone hitting a bomb off of them.

Yes, no one should ever speak negatively on any subject if they have had positive experiences with it previously.

Ok, so hone your skills and pitch more strategically. Just because you can't blow a fastball by just anyone anymore shouldn't lead to you bitching about the ball being juiced, whether it is or not.

I can't blame Verlander for being pissed off. He has a 0.81 WHIP and allowed just over 5 hits per 9 but barely has a sub 3 ERA because he's given up HRs at a rate twice above his career norm due to MLB tampering with the baseballs. In a normal run environment setting, the guy would have an ERA well below 2 right now and people would be talking about him having one of the greatest pitching seasons of all-time.

Verlander is on pace to give up a personal record for HRs by a good margin all while being one of the best pitchers in the game.

It’s not like he’s losing his stuff and blaming it on the game.

Maybe he shouldn’t play in a little league ballpark.

This also benefits his team. It’s not like it’s only a disadvantage for him when he’s pitching.

He should sack up and quit letting the opposition rip his tits. Cool stats though

Are you unaware of all the adjustments that he’s made?

I was at the Verlander start against the Brewers when he broke his personal strikeout record and gave up three solo homers. He was absolutely dealing and still gave up three runs.

I think that’s his point. He now has to treat the 8 and 9 hitter like facing bonds in the World Series. Rather than being able to attack them directly and stay efficient with his pitch count.
