Any schmuck could replace Cook at 90% of his production, not the case at WR

So you can win by paying a high price wr. Two of them made the Super Bowl last 2 years.

I agree to an extent. What I don't like is when a player gets to the end of their career, their skills are starting to dip and they start crying, "Look at all the years I've given you. I should be rewarded." Wait, it was all dollars and cents years ago when you wanted a max contract. Now you want to inject sentimentality into it? Can't have it both ways.

Catch 22 of being a stud WR/RB. You either get paid what you are worth and have your team not be as good, or you play undervalued and have a competitive team.

You can’t be star that is paid what they are worth and their pay be the reason the team loses. That makes no sense.

A player’s apprpriate pay has to aid in leading to wins or they would be overpaid.

Good example of this was the Chiefs and Tyreek Hill.

Coaches and front office personnel should look only at a player’s future. It doesn’t matter what he did in the past.

Everyone knows he’s going to sign a monster contract soon. He has a baseline because for that contract because AJ Brown, Tyreek, Davante Adams, and Stefon Diggs all signed new deals for at least $25M less than a year ago.

1) Every new wave of contracts resets the market. The market rate for a WR1 is now above $25 million/year.

2) WRs and Edge Rushers are the two positions that have the biggest contracts behind. QBs.

3) Jefferson doesn’t have any red flags.
- WR production consistently drops off a cliff around 30-31 years old. Jefferson will be 24 next season.

- There is no question if he’s a WR1. He’s the best WR in the NFL. In fact, he’s a couple of tiers above several players that are considered to be a WR1

- There aren’t any injury are availability concerns.

- There’s not any drama surrounding Jefferson or concerns about his attitude.

The only question is what do his agents consider the largest contract? Total value of the contract, average salary per season, or guaranteed money?

Jefferson still has a year left on his rookie deal, plus the fifth year option. That gives the Vikings more flexibility if the extend him now, but how they manage that flexibility might not with Jefferson’s target.

Does he want $32 million a season, or $100 million guaranteed?

This is his job it only last so long you need to maximize that at every point. Name another player who took a discount other the Brady(super model wife that was worth more then him at the time) in his prime?

Given how jamar chase was clearly the better player when they played together and is dominating in the nfl, I don’t know how you can say this.

I wouldn’t pay any WR over 20 mil / year. Only a few superstars over that. True difffernce makers: Rice, Moss, Megatron.
A great QB will make a good WR great. Spread the pay around the team. Not to a guy that may touch the ball 8-12x a game.

Sounds like Justin won’t be winning anything other than individual awards for the foreseeable future.

I’d be perfectly ok with that. Given the chance any franchise would gladly frick you over in a heartbeat. Secure your money, young man.

I don't understand this. Just because another organization signed an absolutely ridiculous deal with a player doesn't obligate me to replicate the same stupidity. If I'm the Vikings I wish him the best and move on quickly. No way do I hamstring my team with a shitty deal for a player who in three years will in no way be producing at this level. Especially a position as WR that is easily replaceable.

Extract every penny of value (likely at the expense of you and your team’s winning legacy)

Vs

Make a hell of a lot of money to set self up for life, but share it with weapons around you, and invest in you and your team’s winning legacy.

Joe Burrow signed a team friendly deal?

Of course team friendly QB deals are still more than any other top paid player at any position.

It’s why Joe Burrow should get whatever he can. He shouldn’t be thinking about keeping Chase or any other player. They wouldn’t do the same for him.
