These QBs are making a higher and higher % of the team cap.

Click on % of team cap, Top 10 are all >20%

Jordan Love isn't a bum but this is the current trajectory for all QBs up for new deals. Packers no longer have the death hold over the NFC North as they did in years past but they’ll always be a solid playoff caliber team.

I remember seeing that Rodgers in 2014 made up around 14% of his team’s cap when he became the highest paid and TL (and all these other guys) today makes up well over 20%.

That money had to come from somewhere… other positions don’t take up as much of the cap as they used to, like RB and LB

Yeah and I was thinking that other positions likely increased around the same rates as QBs, like WR/edge

I'll try to look at it later

Glad I’m not a Packers fan

I am and this is insane. Favre or Rodgers would've been worth this much after about 5 or so years of starting. I like Love, but this isn't smart. I hope I'm proven wrong.

What a massive mistake by GB. A one year fluke season. Now all teams have game film and he will struggle in year 2. It happens to every 2nd year QB, and this money will hurt building the roster out.

????

One really doesn’t affect the other, plus there’s the slight detail of Love only improving, and Carr almost certainly declining for the length of their deals

This is the stupidest thing I’ve seen an NFL team do in a looooooong fricking time.

I’m sure the Lions, Vikings, and Bears are very happy to see this.

Goff (who has developed above that tier under Ben Johnson, but limits the LIons in some ways in terms of title contention with a stacked roster otherwise).

There are no limits to their title contention at this point.

Goff has been playing like a top 5 QB for a while now.

Unless he has to play outside, b/c of his physical limitations.

The salary cap keeps going up. In 4 years time this will seem like a good deal.

Why are NFL GMs so stupid?

They are almost as bad as college athletic directors that agree to huge buyouts for coaches.

In a vacuum this seems dumb. When examining the make-up of their entire team’s roster and where he salary’s cap is projected to go and when it’s projected to go there it’s a shrewd move on the part of the Packers. If in three years JLove is a top third QB in the NFL this extension is a great move on their part.

He’s 32-19 in his career. He lead the league in passer rating in 2022 and lead the league in passing yard in 2023. He’s proven he’s a top 10 QB in the NFL right now.

Really? So why not factor in the opportunity cost loss. What I mean is even if it levels out in 3 years, how many better players did they miss out signing in those 3 years that might have taken them to SB victory?

They are still losing out on improving roster now. They spent money now that can’t be used on rest of roster. And in 3 years if good he’ll just demand a restructure.
