I sport ULM flair on here but in public am definitely more vocal about LSU. I have ULM gear I wear but not as much as LSU. I definitely support ULM first but when we barely play and it’s pretty easy to split support between both.
I don’t know man…maybe I’m just wired different. I didn’t grow up a USL/UL fan, kind of like you with ULM. But when I became an athlete for and gave all my energy to Cajuns athletics, it’s caused me to definitely be much more invested.
It’s not like a give a ton of money to athletics, but what I do is Cajuns only.
You’re not alone, though. I know quite a few folks who were athletes for smaller D1 programs in LA and TX who still give their loyalties to LSU or UT, even to the point of giving nothing back to the program that provided them a free education while donating all sorts of money to TAF or whatever the UT athletic booster is.

Yea I’ll never donate shite to lsu other than buying tickets to games. I’m not that invested. If I ever decide to donate it’ll definitely be to ULM.

Great observation on the flair. Believe it or not I changed it a few months ago. I had ULM on here since I joined TD. I felt after having a 10 game losing streak last year in football & another 6 game losing streak this year, then craping the bed in baseball & basketball that I wasn’t gonna rep ULM on here if this is the product. I know seems silly to change something so minor but I was like I’m done. LSU consistently has success & they are my favorite “national” brand university anyway so I’ll rep them for awhile. I’m not a fair weather fan I just can’t keep getting “figuratively” kicked in the groin with ULM’s disappointment.

You don’t stop being a fan just because you get older and play for someone else lol

In all honestly neither should tech nor Lafayette
In all honestly this part is BS. Both have shown they can compete at the G5 level with the right leadership and both are investing in their programs. Cajun Field is getting a major innovation and Aillet is getting the new academic success center in the north end zone.

I do usually wear LSU, but need to buy some more ULM. I mostly wear LSU to counteract the Aggie presence in Houston.
But on the flair, I change it to ULM when everyone started in with their drop down BS. I am an Indian first (in that group of pissed off alums), a Warhawk 2nd, and a Tiger 3rd. NLU are the games I went to in college and had so much fun at. The school was booming and growing every year when I was there in the late 70s/early 80s. I do talk ULM any time I can if someone is discussing Sunbelt of a team we happen to be playing. Every good year (like 2024) I hope that we are turning it around only to be disappointed.

Glad you support ULM. I do personally think the acronym NLU sounds so much stronger than ULM. But I can't cry over spilled milk. So you are a woman? Glad to see a female on the sports board! What was your reasoning for moving to Texas? Let me guess...job opportunities

Yes, we moved to Texas in 1989. We had the oil bust earlier in the 80s and things just weren't bouncing back. We lived in Shreveport and I grew up near there way out in the country. Moved to Dallas first and have been in Houston since 1992. I've been posting here a long time. Like many Louisiana ladies, I grew up with all the sports and continue to watch it all. I hang out in the DAT pretty regularly.
You will always find me in any ULM threads, hating on the name change. I know I should be over it by now.

Haha, glad to hear you are still rooting for them & I am not the only long suffering fan here.
Well in terms of the name change, I guess that helped us get into the Sun Belt conference by going along with the Cajuns so at least we got one good thing out of changing it!

I went to NLU in the mid 70’s. (Remember Nobody Likes Us?) not ULM. Have great memories of the matchups with McNeese, Tech, Northwestern, McNeese. We were strong in Men’s basketball. Track and Field. Crappy campus though, Olin Hall was about to fall in the bayou.

Northwestern State, class of 1984.
Those NSU-NLU games often had playoff implications.

I remember some national show on TV I can't remember what it was called. Something like shocking things that really happened. And it was the mascot fight between the demon mascot & the indian mascot called war chief I think lol. Early '90s I believe that happened

I grew up in Monroe in the late 80’s. Graduated high school in ‘90. There was just a handful of us that left Monroe for college in my so called network and I include Tech as leaving and I only remember 2 that left and went to LSU. It wasn’t really uncool that I remember to go to NLU and most people that did go to LSU were right back at NLU when they failed out for partying to much in BR. I still have family and a pretty good group of friends that still live in Monroe. I am pretty involved with a men’s retreat based out of a local methodist church so I keep up with what is happening there even though I live in Houston. What I find shocking is that literally none of my friends have kids that went or go to ULM except for 1 that plays ball there currently but that’s the only reason he is there. Now Tech is another story. If Northside Monroe kids aren’t going to LSU, they are heading to Ruston and some to Ole Miss. So knowing this I find it hard for me to understand how a local college can not pull even a handful of resident kids when by default with Century leaving town they are probably the biggest thing going in Monroe besides St Francis.

The best and brightest from Monroe high schools are leaving town for college.
A lot of local kids do go to ULM, but I would say that the tops kids leave town. Many go to LSU or out of state.
The med school in Shreveport only ends up with a few (if any) ULM kids per year.

Honestly I think that’s trend was kinda there when I was in Monroe. There were alot of commuters but not near as much as I expected
