If he won a Super Bowl under Dan Snyder you could make the argument, otherwise..... Nah.

As a Skins fan, I think he’s top 3 but not the goat. Amazing what he did with his rosters though and what he was given QB wise.

Joe Theismann won NFL MVP in 1983. I didn’t say he was a great QB. I said he was legit good. Tampa Bay had most of its success before 1997 with Williams at QB and fell off a cliff when he left for the USFL.

The game in the ‘80s was a different era. I know. I watched it.

There’s something to be said for coaches like Joe Gibbs, Parcells, Tom Landry, etc. that had great success with a variety of QBs.

Andy Reid is another. Mahomes is a generational QB, but Reid also had a lot of success with McNabb and Alex Smith. Both were fine QBs, but not HoFers.

They were just as important, but not to have to win the game for their team like today.

...and a bunch of car racing champions.

Perhaps his greatest feat was getting Snyder-owned teams to the playoffs.

Nick Foles , Jim McMahon, Jeff Hostetler, and Earl Morrall beg to differ

Joe Gibbs developed the one back offense to find an answer for Lawrence Taylor. It was the biggest innovation in offensive football since the triple option. He is one of the all time greats and doesn't get the credit he deserves.

I remember Gibbs bringing in a favored Redskin team against the Raiders in the Super Bowl and absolutely getting trounced.

Don Shula
Vince Lombardi
Paul Brown
Bill Belicheat
Andy Reid
Bill Walsh

Not necessarily in that order, are all above Joe Gibbs IMHO.

Parcells was 58-68, no playoff wins in the 8 seasons when Belichick wasn't his DC

Bill Walsh says hello

Bill Walsh was awesome, and a very funny dude. But he, Lombardi, Noll, Jimmy Johnson, Belichick and Reid all had stability at QB during their SB Championship runs. Tom Landry had the same starting QB for his SB wins as well.

Gibbs had a different starting QB and a different starting main ball-carrying RB for all three of his championships.

True, but he also had a different starting backfield for each SB winning season as well.

He was pretty dang good. The first NFL season I remember really well was 1979. I feel like he's the best NFL coach that I have watched.

Y'all don't appreciate Paul Brown. His coaching tree included Walsh so strike down Walsh.

He was probably one of the most innovative coaches ever. Many of his ideas are in full use today. Hell, the Eagles coach called the Browns a basketball team because they passed so much. Beat h the Eagles 35-0 without throwing a pass.

Won championships in two different leagues and coming from AAFC to NFL and winning the championship was a momentous achievement

True. However, the 80s was a time when you started seeing offenses evolve into the modern ones that they are today. QBs from the decade like Montana, Marino, Elway, Young, Moon, Kelly, and Fouts helped to evolve the game from primary run to primary pass.
