Watched him lead a team to the second best record in the East and lose in the first round. Apparently Boston’s front office watched that, too.
Well the best player on the team, Derrick White, averaged 11, 3, and 3 on 32% shooting in the series.

Looks like the Celtics trade of the 1st pick in 2017 is still playing out. It’ll be interesting if Brown can eventually win a championship in Philly.

Durant played 47 games. Kawhi played 52. You aren't making all-NBA if you miss that many games even if the rule never existed. JJJ has never made all-NBA so him potentially blocking Brown's candidacy matters as much as like Jaxson Hayes.
That’s false. Players routinely made the All NBA teams playing well under 65 games. JJJ had a heck of a year and was a shoe in for an All NBA team but he only played 63 games that season.
Jaylen had it fall in his lap, point blank. He wouldn’t have made All NBA without the new rule that benefited him.

Just say you can not have two guys making 70 million. It's a much more reasonable explanation than this "actually Derrick White despite shooting 39% this year was the best player on the team" big brain defense that they're trying.
You can have two supermax guys IF they’re actually producing at a top 10 level and not just inefficiently stuffing a stat sheet.
Jaylen bombed out in game 7 of the playoffs and last year in game 6 against the Knicks. His on/off numbers are terrible. He’s not worth the money, it’s that simple.

I think the Celtics are about to find out that Tatum is a bit overrated as well. He’s the better between the two, but he wasn’t nearly aggressive enough at going to the basket BEFORE the Achilles, now he’s going to be less so.

We’ll see. The Celtics aren’t serious championship contenders anyways until they move off of Paul George’s $54 and $56 million over the next two years.

Had he not made all NBA in 2023 and been on a standard 4 year $40million/year max contract the return would’ve been much better or the Cs wouldn’t have wanted to trade him at all.

But you're talking about guys that played under 52 games. Wade, Yao, and Steph are the only guys since 2000 to make an all-NBA team despite missing 30 games, which Kawhi and Durant did that season. Wade and Steph were 3rd team and Yao was 2nd because there was like 5 centers left in the league.

He had a great year. Adding a guy doesn't knock Brown off.

Kevin Durant and Kawhi Leonard aren’t in that same category? Please. They would’ve made the team. And literally 1 year later Ja, Durant, and LeBron all played in the 50s and still made the teams.
And regardless of whether they wouldn’t have or would have, Jaylen was extremely fortunate to jump those guys because he’s not in the same galaxy talent/efficiency wise as them. To classify him as a top 6 forward in the NBA in 2023 was laughable. He simply wasn’t on that level, as proven by nobody wanting to trade for him these past few weeks.

Yes adding a guy over Brown would’ve knocked him off. I distinctly remember the talk of Jaylen making All NBA was because he got it by default over more talented guys.

Shortened by 10 games. Wouldn’t have gotten a single one of them to 65.

Adding one guy might knock him off the 2nd team, how does it knock him off the 3rd team as well?

Are you forgetting about Kawhi and Durant, two much better players who had much better numbers?

Brown needed to get away from that place but not sure Phili is the best landing spot. At least there’s a chance for him there, hopefully he’s still got some prime left.

It sounds like Boston thought he was good, but not Supermax good in a climate where you essentially have a hard cap at the second apron.
In this environment you don’t want to put yourself in a situation where you are paying the 25th best player in the NBA a supermax contract.

Agree completely. Analytically he’s also not close to #25. Closer to the 70-80s.

What
Brown was 6th in MVP voting. He was without a doubt one of the best players in the league this year. Playoffs don't matter with regular season awards. He was without a doubt going to be all NBA even if JJJ qualified. And even if you think JJJ would have been in over Brown (which he wouldn't), there still was third team all nba.

I mean they gave him a 300mil contract
He carried the team to second place without Tatum in the East which wasnt horrible
I get the cap space etc and just wanting to move on but this anonymous source crap attack by all the "NBA Insider" talking tards is so obviously propoganada by Boston to justify getting screwed, unless you are dumb
