Honestly, I if I am the GM (ha), I would attempt to trade Harden in the offseason for someone like Kevin Martin (11 mil a year contract, basically what discounted Harden contract would look like) and Houston's 1st round pick. Then sign Ibaka for the most economical long term deal they can get.
Only pain would be losing Harden's demeanor since he is a fan favorite. I swear more people like him than Durant or Westbrook cuz of the damn beard
nice sail. great post!

How many more million a year is the max compared to what they offered Harden?
It seems like they made this offer expecting he would decline (because he obviously wasn't going to accept less than a max), just so they could show their fan base they made an attempt to keep him.
Or something like that.

I was reading that it was 8 million over the length of the contract. Signing him to that contract would make the them the payroll equivalents of MIA-LAL but in a smaller market.

a good big
he rejected like 4/54 and he could have gotten 5/92 or so as the "rose rule" max on another team (or 5/80 normally)

ibaka did. they offered him more than ibaka signed for (4/48-51M)

Ibaka might be a better fit for the Thunder, but Harden is more valuable to most teams in the league.
People think he can average 25 points/game as the main guy somewhere. And he's what, 23 years old?
That's worth the max, to me.

Probably so but Ibaka > Harden for OKC.

westbrook will come to the dark side of the NBA soon. he would look great in purple and gold. book it.

In 4 years?

they could, but they'd have the highest payroll in the NBA in a few years possibly. they can't afford that
Not sure about that. Simmons was tweeting yesterday that OKC was doing 35 mil in profit last year. That has to be the most in the league

i don't know if the numbers are that high, but a few months ago, they were talking about it on the raido, saying the thunder has to be one of the few nba teams that are making a good profit. small market or not, this team has to be making money.
Posted on 10/28/12 at 11:18 am to usc6158
IF that is true, it's a function of only having durant on a max deal. westbrook's going to be making about $15M now. ibaka is going to be making about $12M now. add in 10-12M for the 4th option (harden/martin/etc) and that profit is gone
add in the draconian tax penalties and that adds another $15-30M in salary obligations
