quote:2nd best record in the NFC, tied with Chicago, but had the better conference record. The Hartley missed FG in week 3 being the difference in playing on the road in the WC round vs being the 1 seed is crazy. Even crazier having to go on the road against a team that would have finished 4th in the NFC South, and no better than 3rd in any other NFC division. They won their division and the division champs should be guaranteed a playoff spot, no qualms with that at all, but the fact you can finish with the second best record in your conference and have to go on the road in the first round is crazy. It's the rules of the game, but just mind boggling to look at the actual data.
We didn’t win our division, we didn’t deserve to host

And if the Saints don't stall in the red zone at the end of the game against the Cardinals in week 1, we could be looking at a 4-way tie

For some stupid reason the Seahawks got to host that game. It's a stupid NFL rule

My OCD kicked in, and I went and looked at the three-team tiebreaker rules. I think the Panthers win on head-to-head.
https://www.nfl.com/standings/tie-breaking-procedures
Panthers are 3-1 vs the other two teams, while the Bucs are 2-2, and the Falcons are 1-3. No need to go any further at that point with one team left standing after tiebreaker #1.
If Atlanta does not win both games, the Bucs win on common opponents.
The Bucs are 6-6 while the Panthers are 5-7 against the following common opponents:
Arizona Cardinals
Atlanta Falcons Game 1
Atlanta Falcons Game 2
Buffalo Bills
Los Angeles Rams
Miami Dolphins
New England Patriots
New Orleans Saints Game 1
New Orleans Saints Game 2
New York Jets
San Francisco 49ers
Seattle Seahawks

I just had a nightmare flashback remembering Marshawn Lynch running over the entire Saints defense to secure the Seahawks win.....

For that to happen... Atlanta needs to beat the Rams tonight (highly unlikely... I'm sure that's why the NFL felt comfortable putting the games on different days)
Step 1 complete... Falcons win
All that's needed now is
quote:
Tampa needs to beat Carolina on Saturday
If that happens... then Saints/Falcons determines the NFC South championship for either Tampa or Carolina

That yappy Chris Hansen is going to be insufferable on Red Zone if this happens, he will keep breathlessly explaining it every 5 minutes "for those just joining us".

I think Carolina wins because they swept the Falcons and neither the Saints nor Bucs would have done so.

Bucs up 9 with 5:30 to go... we're getting close to this scenario becoming reality

AFC North is pretty shite too.

Clutch 3rd down conversion by TB right at the 2:00 warning
CAR has 1 timeout left... Bucs up 16-14
