SMU walked so NIL could run.

When NIL kicked in they should have just called up anyone that's still around from their teams in the 80's.

To be honest, Dykes was never a good coach. He was great at getting transfers in at LA Tech to make one good run for one season. After that season was over he had done no recruiting and left the program with absolutely nothing when he took off to Cal. It was kind of clear he would eventually run it into the ground for anyone who's paid attention to his career.

Just like any team in college football, we are down right now. It is rare for teams to be consistently good and only teams like Bama, Michigan, Ohio State, etc are

Yeah. I think it’s unreasonable to expect non big name schools to be good every single year.

Heck, look at Aggie and UT. They aren’t even good every year while throwing a TON of money at the situation.

TCU can put together good NIL packages and has a lot to offer. They’re surrounded by schools that are much more willing though, namely SMU.

It’s funny Dykes left. He had the opportunity to get the full blown Pony Express up and running again.

TCU will be fine and there is no reason they should be outside of the top 3 in the B12 every year. Not to mention they are in the DFW metroplex with tons of talent. They have money and has raised a lot recently for NIL.

They renovated their stadium a couple years back and it's a very nice P4 stadium.

I'm not saying they will be a constant top 10 team, but there is no reason they shouldn't always be in the top 25 with a once every 5-year team in the top 10.

If Dykes is fired, I would expect a line to form to the left of applicants.

TCU would be a great fit for someone like Jeff Lebby.

I guess. I don’t think they were ever a thing. One magical season doesn’t make you a program. Can you be “done” if it was just a fluke?

TCU has been an overachiever for almost 15 years. There’s no reason they should have been the best program in the state for an extended period of time over Texas and aTm and even Tech, but they were.

They have multiple NY6 bowl wins including an appearance in the natty. Of course they were overmatched. They had the nice season with a Rose Bowl win over Wisconsin. I think the high water mark of the program was solely due to Patterson.

Are they done overachieving? Maybe. But that shouldn’t take away how amazing that stretch was.

TCU always comes across to me as a team that finds relative success purely as a matter of circumstance, not one that controls its destiny through solid recruiting and coaching.

For example - Georgia (current era) doesn’t need other teams around them to be down in order to rack up wins. They win games because they are better systemically than most other teams.

TCU never came across as a team that is just built to beat everyone around them. Down years from the big boys of the Big XII allow teams like that to hit 10 and 11 wins, but it’s fools gold.

Gary Patterson was one of the best coaches in the country. He’s the reason why they took advantage of the in-state schools being down. TCU isn’t going to attract 5-star talent in the pre-NIL era.

If TCU is done, someone hasn’t told the fans. Tickets for the upcoming Tech game are expensive. I guess Tech fans in DFW are driving the market.

I think Dykes leaving SMU for TCU re-engaged SMU’s donors and fans.

They were not willing to spend on facilities and other things which is one of the big reasons Dykes left for TCU.

Now SMU is absolutely fired up as they should be.

But I don’t think Georgia could have won 100-0 when TCU scored early.

Cons: no real home field advantage, a student body that was largely UT fan growing up (often secretly still are), and the transfer portal has gutted private schools

Pros: an administration that wants to be decent at sports, good instate talent, insane co-ed talent, and good education.

if i was TCU's coach every recruiting trip would begin and end at the rec cardio section

That OT win against Michigan aside, TCU did not belong in the playoff in 2022.

Of course they did. Who deserved it more?

People for some reason don't have the mental capacity to separate "deserving of making the playoffs" and what happened once the playoffs arrived. Whatever happened once the final 4 was set is 100000000% irrelevant as to whether those 4 teams were justified in being there or not.

I KNOW you aren't about to claim alabama desrerved it. They had 2 losses and didn't even win their division.
Tennessee also with 2 losses and didn't win their divison?
2 loss clemson?

TCU was undoubtedly without question deserving of making the 2022 playoffs. People also tend to forget the fact (you didn't, but many do) that they beat undefeated 13-0 and #2 ranked Michigan.

Theri only fault was that they played one of the better teams in SEC history that was absolutely superior in every facet. That has nothing to do with their deservedness in making the playoffs though.
