Is JJ McCarthy really going to be a first round pick?

Im seeing a lot of pundits saying hes a first rounder. I feel like im taking crazy pills. What does the msb think?

@jjmccarthy09 is a top 15 pick in the Draft; he has demonstrated consistent improvement, along with a great arm, accuracy and ability to run, he should be a front line QB in the NFL:

Will he? Sure, maybe. Always dumb teams out there reaching for QBs

If Penix played halfway decent yesterday, the narrative would be about how horrendous McCarthy played. Got completely bailed out by Corum and Edwards.

Other QBs drafted in the first round:
Kenny Pickett
Zach Wilson
Trey Lance
Mac Jones
Dwayne Haskins
Sam Darnold
Josh Rosen

I would be mad if my team took him in the first.

He's got the physical tools but has never really had to carry the load so who knows.

He has zero touch. Just throws nothing but fastballs. Someone will probably fall in love with the arm strength though.

I'll admit, I haven't watched a ton of Michigan football but I just don't see the McCarthy hype. He doesn't seem very big nor does he seem super accurate. Seems like a solid backup in the NFL perhaps.

Patriots trade down and pick him up late in the first
Would be hilarious

I feel like all these guys looked better in college than McCarthy did. Haskins threw 50 TDs in a season

McCarthy really should return for his senior season. Next year's QB class is very weak compared to this year's class with Williams, Maye, Daniels, Penix, Nix, etc... If he stays for another year and has a great season, he has a good shot at being a first round pick compared to being maybe a mid-second round pick in this year's draft.

I think many teams remember how Tom Brady was like a 5th round draft pick and under valued going into the draft even though Brady had all the measurements scouts look for in an QB. My guess is the reason why so many QBs are first round busts lately is the Brady effect.

He’s a poor man’s Daniel Jones. I feel bad for whatever team is dumb enough to draft him in the first.

He's got the frame, the arm and the mentality. Can he actually play? Who knows, but I bet scouts will fall in love with him at the combine and interviews.
They love big prototype nfl QB prospects.

Michigan is a rush offense. First time watching them play huh?

We're talking about McCarthy as a pro prospect. He was complete trash. Corum and Edward carried him.

After Stroud I'm kind of done armchair evaluating QBs, but I'll give it a go anyway
I assumed he wouldn't succeed because he was a product of his WR room. Then he lit up Georgia, and I figured it was a bit of a one-off. Dude ended up being legit.
With McCarthy I think there could be a bit of the opposite where he really hasn't had anybody outside of some TEs (that haven't really panned out in the league so far) to throw to.
I think the leadership is there with JJ, no question. Its kind of cringe to talk about and evaluate, but its part of playing QB and IMO thats why some of Herbert's teams have faltered, he isn't that guy.
The arm talent is definitely there too. That one first down throw last night where he was kind of falling backwards was an absolute dot.
I feel like Michigan didn't let him show how good (or not good) he really is at times, and they didn't have to. So was it because he really isn't that good, or did Michigan just not need to unleash him? In their one loss in 2 years he threw for almost 350 yards and 2 TDs, but had 2 picks. He was also sacked 3 times.
He should go later in the first round, which would probably work out for him because he could step into a better situation and get more reps. Maybe Tampa, Seattle, Pittsburgh, maybe learn for a year behind Stafford in LA.

How many michigan games have you watched this year? You saw him last night for the first time, and think you know something..
SEC fans should watch games outside the conference.
