he's kind of small 6'3 200 lbs and i've seen very little touch from him. I just don't buy the hype at all.

It’s hard to judge McCarthy because he’s working within an offense that didn’t rely on him throwing all over the field. They have strong O Line, strong Defense (held every opponent to under 25) and strong running game.

Who does he have thats a good deep threat where he would need to do that? Not saying he is definitely capable, but I don't know if he has even had the horses to be able to show touch.

They run the ball and throw off play action. He zips it in on timing routes, back shoulder stuff, and over the middle to the TE.

He plays in a true pro system. They aren’t looking to the sideline for every play call. He can make all the throws, he just hasn’t had to.

Also if you’ve watched Michigan play the last two years, he comes through nearly every time they need him to. The kid can play.

No idea, he could be. Maybe not.

I wouldn't watch a player play for a total of 4 qrts and act like I know what I'm talking about though.

I bet you got your opinion from reading other peoples' opinions on this board though.

Yep, see that's a normal post. So many other posts from ignorant SEC fans who don't watch a second of football outside the conference, and they think they are right about everything without ever watching them play..

Just more talking heads everywhere.

I have a buddy who’s a huge Michigan fan. Watches every game.

He think McCarthy is the most overrated QB in a while. I’ll take his word for it.

No.

He is who he is because they play in a conference against several terrible teams and they have a great defense.

Dude is nowhere near ready to helm an NFL team.

Penix isn't either.

But hey, the geniuses at the NFL have jumped for the likes of Ryan Leaf, Todd Marinovich, etc.

None of this is debatable...

McCarthy has thrown four touchdowns in his last seven games and threw zero touchdowns in five of those games (Purdue, Penn State, Maryland, Iowa, and Washington). He threw for less than 200 yards in five of his last six games and never threw for more than 221 yards. He's a solid QB but hasn't proven himself to be anything more than a game manager - their starting RB had three more total touchdowns than McCarthy did this year so it isn't like McCarthy has had to put the team on his back at any point.

Compare the first half of their schedule to the second half of their schedule and look at his game logs. He scored 21 of his 25 total touchdowns in the first 9 games of their season where they didn't play a single ranked team. Look at their final six games where they played five ranked teams and he scored four total touchdowns and saw a significant dip in QBR. He didn't break 200 total yards but one time over those final six games

Outside of their receivers, McCarthy was probably the weakest link on their entire team

One QB plays against mostly meh teams but wins, and another plays against a few good teams but can't beat them.

Who are those QBs?

I would argue that this era of QBs are the least NFL ready of any possibly in history. They don't have to make hard throws anymore when they come up in these spread offenses for their whole career..

NFL teams fall all over themselves with good combine numbers. Add all the hype from the media, if he has good numbers then he will definitely be a 1st round pick.

How many QBs that didn’t show actual high level passing success in college improved in the nfl?

I feel like ever since Josh Allen teams think that is possible, but he is a huge exception. Not many players ever improve their game entering the nfl
