I dont think he will be the last coach to turn around a program overnight the way the NIL situation is. If he did the same thing 10-15 years ago then probably a future HOF coach

Should be an automatic entry for winning with Indiana.

His winning percentage is pretty insane

Till he wins 6 games next year?

He's a lock if they repeat or get another natty before he retires IMO

Yes. There's not a coach alive, including Saban, that could have done that turnaround in two years.
The blueprint is there, someone else will accomplish that feat again. The emphasis should be more on production and coachability rather than raw talent.
Starting true freshmen should no longer be a thing.

He got Indiana a championship.
Gonna repeat that: He got Indiana a championship.
Yes.

If you win a national championship in football at Indiana you should get a free pass into the hall of fame even if he never wins another game!

He did have the benefit of the modern day transfer portal. I highly doubt he would have had the success he has had if he couldn't bring over basically his whole JMU squad to IU

I'll probably get blasted for this but if he doesn't have Mark Cuban he never sniffs the Hall.
Not going to blast you, because funding reigns supreme right now. But not sure why everyone assumes this Indiana team was an expensive one.
Cignetti in an interview mentioned that total compensation his team was around $24 million, with only Mendoza cracking the top 100 in the country in NIL compensation at $2.6 million.
Going forward that might change. But even then, Mark Cuban has said that his money to the team is not unlimited and they provide him a detailed analysis of how they are spending his money. Just because it's available doesn't mean that he's going to allow the crazy spending like they are doing at Miami.

They spent money but they spent it wisely. How moronic do their B1G counterparts at Michigan look now after dumping how much cash on Underwood?

Yes. I still can not wrap my mind around Indiana football ever winning anything in my lifetime. Anyone that wins a title there automatically goes in.

2× AFCA Coach of the Year (2024, 2025)

Sun Belt Coach of the Year (2023)

That is a pretty solid resume. If he goes on and averages 8 wins the next 5 years he is a lock. Plus he has been in the Playoffs in 3 separate divisions, So to me yes.

The CFB HoF, when it comes to coaches, is actually the “hall of very good”.
He could retire today and would be a mortal lock.

Cignetti will walk into the CFB hall of fame. He's an absolute lock.
Dude is 143-37 with a national title, undefeated season at fricking Indiana, where he's 24-2...
