I have said this since being a young coach, I do NOT believe one bit of the NCAA's, high school associations, etc. care of student health when football is played 100 degree weather. Football is not designed to be a Summer sport. It was originally a New England sport.

I said Bama had no business playing at 11:00 am last week.
It really goes to show that these schools only care about money. Nearly all our universities have turned into minor league sports franchises. And most of them are poorly run. It's ridiculous.

I was at the Parkway vs. Dunham game on Friday at the Independence bowl. It was leg one of a double header so it was a 5PM kickoff. It was noticeably hotter in Shreveport than Baton Rouge. Multiple Parkway cheerleaders fell out and had to be taken to under the bleachers to rehydrate. I know, CSB, but the heat is no joke this time of year.

One year, during the NFL playoffs, there were home games scheduled in Green Bay and some southern city, like Los Angeles. It was forecast to be super cold in Wisconsin.
Of course you know that Green Bay got the night game and LA (or whomever) got the day game for ratings.

I forget which game it was but one of them the sideline reporter was talking about how they were getting reading of 150+ degrees on the field and the announcers were just yucking it up like that's no big deal.
It difficult to hear leaders in the sport yammer on and on about player safety but then turn around and have no issue w/games being played in insane heat all b/c TV demands it.

frick August football practice in the South. That shite was miserable.

The heat definitely has to be acclimated to. Also, those band members typically wear uniforms that look miserable to be in during the heat.

Newer turfs are significantly cooler.

I think part of it is acclimation, or lack there of. But when I was growing up 80/90’s I also don’t remember playing football games in 100+ degree heat. Arkansas early season games were always 7:00 pm kickoffs. We suck now so that’s out of the question with the stupid TV contracts.

At least at the college level, the football team is somewhat taken care of. Huge industrial sized fans on the sidelines. Plenty of water and gatorade. The band members are going to be more SOL. They may have a water bottle, thats about it.
