Downvote away.
A subset of these athletes weren’t built or raised to be a functional member of a civilized society. The question is how big is this subset?

The NIL league teams will have the same brands / mascots as the schools, but won't formally be part of the schools.
The LSU Tiger Football Team will be a separate LLC from Louisiana State University
It is going to suck

Well they’re not employees and not paid to play. NIL is separate.

So tired of hearing these grown-arse men called kids.
They are adults making adult decisions.
You can't argue in one breath that they are 18 and can vote, buy guns, and serve in the military, but not buy a beer???
While arguing they are kids out there for our entertainment.

It needs some tweaking but it’s positive for the kids. They sacrifice to entertain us and create millions for the universities. It’s not your daddy’s college football anymore. It’s a year round full time job for these guys. They put more time in than most people in their daily jobs and are full time students.
At what point did we start pretending like athletes "work for free" in their respective sports? Sure, bottom tier sports will likely not make much, but even those athletes are on some sort of scholarship (full or partial), don't pay for books, food, medical care, etc. But since this mostly affects the big name sports and athletes, they are the ones benefitting the most from "free shite" at school anyway.
I'm not trying to argue one way or the other if it is "fair compensation" or not (though I do believe that it is), but why do most people pretend like they get nothing, or that a free education is worthless?

At this point, what would even be the purpose of the athletes being tied to the universities? Let the boosters fund the teams, pay the players, and if the players want to attend school, they can enroll and pay their way.
Just have different logos on the helmets and such. Instead of LSU Tigers, it can be Baton Rouge Bayou Bengals. Then that way they don't have to worry about maintaining that pesky 1.8 GPA either.

Back in the day, wasn’t it simply ‘General Studies’?
Now it’s interdisciplinary studies. Basically just take whatever courses you want.

It won't happen because a huge reason people even follow these teams is their affiliation with their schools. Remove them from the school and far less people will care.

Which is exactly why I believe it should happen. These players want to laugh at the fact they’ve been offered a free education and free housing and jump to whatever booster seeks them out…then universities should sever their ties to the whole operation.
See how quick that alumni money dries up for the non-university affiliated league.

The NFL needs a proper minor league.
All colleges can then go back to having actual “student athletes”.
More of a “club” system than the insanity created.

Where are they going to get the money? Unless NFL sanctions this it will not work. NIL is largely being driven by alumni.

I pray that it's that quick and that Arkansas is left out. Let actual student athletes come back. Return to having standards and high expectations for them. Let the kids who want to play ball for money, play ball for money.
Doubt it will. This will continue for decades.
