Why not just create an actual minor league football
Its going to cost the NFL unnecessary money. These minor league players will have a union, demand pensions, sue for CTE, medical expenses, etc.....Just get a couple more seasons of game film in college & reduce the headache. Plus free marketing for young players.. Win-win for the NFL

No it doesn't

The NFL needs a proper minor league

They tried it with WLAF and lost millions. They aren't gonna do it again and the NFLPA sure as hell won't agree to it.

All colleges can then go back to having actual “student athletes

Why do so many want the greatest sport in the country to collapse?
Amazing that these same folks who want to burn it down are the same ones glued to their set every Saturday.

It is already happening.

NIL and the transfer portal changes are speeding it up.

Why do people continue to hold onto the false idea that these individuals are student athletes and not simply minor league players?

Some are and some aren't.Do you really think this is something new and CFB has always been a pristine sport? Hell, why do you think the Ivy League deemphasized the sport 60 years ago?

BTW why are you on a CFB website making thousands of posts if you detest the sport so bad?

Why do you watch the sport?

Who said I detested the sport?

I would love for it to go back to the “college pride” days of the past, rather than minor league system it is now, and I believe the best way to do that would be to separate the minor league and the university systems.

It will be smaller, but it will have a more fun atmosphere.

The players wouldn’t transfer all of the time because their futures wouldn’t depend on their playing time.

They would play the sport for the fun of it.

They would still have the potential to advance to the minors or pros, but they would be true student athletes.

Why do you watch the sport?
The amount I have watched has decreased significantly over the previous 10-15 years.

Probably multi-factorial as to why that is, but the further corporatization of it has definitely played a part.

The other major factor is likely just my age.

how, exactly?

I keep seeing this all over the place but have yet to see anyone tell me exactly how this is going to make CFB collapse?

the only answer I ever get it "well I don't like it"

Yes, it is declining rapidly. Attendance continues to fall. Championship game was least watched, other than 2020 Covid year, since 2005. Revenues may be up, but two conferences in 2020 (numbers have not been released for 2021) saw declines and one of the power five even operated at a loss. Your team won this year, so you may be blinded from reality a bit.

It’s only going to get worse. One of the great things about college was the loyalty and pride. Players had it and it even carried over to NFL with players continuing to show pride for their schools. Now players sign with one school and transfer to another school in the same conference. Hard to be loyal as a fan when players are not loyal.

It’s basically the NFL now with much less talented players than the NFL and players are only on one year contracts instead of four or gl five year contracts. Not good.

If it's an amateur endeavor, the student athletes themselves are the customers, and the fans don't matter.

If it's a business, the fans are the customers, and the student athletes become more akin to entertainment employees providing a "product" to said fans.

It's ironic that most of the people complaining about NIL are doing so from the point of view of the "product" being degraded, proving the point the college football is acting more as a business vs. an amateur endeavor (which is how we got here in the first place).

When half of every stadium was empty?

I don’t believe you.

I don’t have season tix anymore. But I got a “here’s a deal” email from LSU like 10 times during the season.

Bama and UG. Probably. Overall?

I’m sure the sec and acc TV deals in place already will pay out. But Overall?

I doubt it.

That will end college football as we know. I imagine you won't have clear breaks within conferences. Some Big 10 schools would join and some won't. Some Pac 12 teams would join and some won't. Not all ACC and not all SEC teams would join. I think college football will become drastically reduced as a national sport and the tv money dwindles and the NIL League won't be able to sustain itself.

A few years ago, nearly everyone on LSU majored in that. I wouldn’t be surprised if some ambitious recruit signs at LSU with dreams of majoring in Engineering but gets ‘convinced’ Interdisciplinary Studies is a better decision.

There are plenty of jobs in sales, service, retail, and so on that you can be successful with any type of degree.

Okay? BTW both were forced on CFB by the courts. The schools and NCAA had nothing to do with it.

Who said I detested the sport?

I did because all you do is shite on it and the athletes who play in it.

will be smaller, but it will have a more fun atmosphere

Smaller? The sport would be gone as we know it just like the Ivy League

They would play the sport for the fun of it.

So do fraternity guys who play flag football.Lets just have them play.

quote:

The amount I have watched has decreased significantly over the previous 10-15 years

And you wouldn't watch it all with frat boys representing your school.
Nobody would except their families and some students.

I’m fine paying players.

You can pay student workers.

I wouldn’t watch some weird break away league where the team is no longer affiliated with the university.
And if they are breaking away to pay players why call it NIL. Why not just Salary league.

I’m pretty sure a lot of people just don’t understand NIL
