FWIW I never thought he was going to be great at Michigan, but not totally because of Harbaugh. Michigan had been in the dumps for the better part of a decade before he came. Anyone who expected a single man to make a huge difference wasn't being realistic.

Doesn't help that Ohio State, Wisconsin, Michigan State, etc. all had recent success and have been able to out-recruit Michigan lately either.

I do wonder how all of the dominoes would have fallen had UM made that move in 07

Harbaugh’s not leaving. He’s not leaving. He’s not fricking leaving! THE SHOW GOES ON! Michigan is his home. They’re going to need a fricking wrecking ball to get Harbaugh out of there. They’re going to need to send in the National Guard, the fricking SWAT team because he ain’t going nowhere.

Miles won one division title in eight years with access to a far superior pool of talent than Michigan offers. It would have been uglier than Jim Harbaugh’s current time at Michigan.

Either hire Urban Meyer or completely shut down the program. Harbaugh only knows how to lose. Program needs a complete overhaul. I wasn’t surprised by this loss at all.

Despite all the winning before, the 2014 49ers lost all respect for him and his offense in Year 4 was one of the worst in the league. That's his inevitable trajectory.

He had the worst starting QB in the NFL and had soft arse betas like Jonathan Martin on the team. Would be interesting to see him somewhere like Houston or Atlanta where they have competent QB play.

People want him to go to the pros but he was hated by his 49ers roster after a couple years. At least according to most media reports. Dude is a weird a-hole.

This is not a defense. Harbaugh said Kaepernick was the best player in the 2011 draft. He dumped Alex Smith for him. He didn't make any subsequent attempt to challenge him with Colt McCoy and Blaine Gabbert as backups.

If an ex-QB head coach leads a team to 30th in passing in Year 4, those failures are 100% an indictment on him.

The best LB corps since the Dome Patrol (Willis-Bowman-Smith-Brooks), a great DL led by Justin Smith, and a solid secondary that didn't have any weak links were why the Harbaugh years were great.

His side of the ball was not.

X's and O's, personality/player management, talent evaluation - Harbaugh doesn't bring anything to the table. There is no reason for him to get another NFL gig with the cat out of the bag.

His lack of QB development has been baffling considering he’s supposed to be a QB guru.

Michigan as a program isn't that much different than Nebraska. I don't know that they will ever be able to be consistently great year to year again

They're different from Nebraska. Michigan for decades has been consistently good but not great and stubs their toes against their rivals(OSU, MSU, former ND). Harbaugh's Michigan isn't really different from Carr's Michigan minus one season and John Cooper having the same problem Harbaugh has not beating the rival.
Nebraska is a former powerhouse that will NEVER get back to that level. They're a middle of the conference program.

Maybe the problem is Michigan? This book came out after year 1 of Harbaugh.

You realize he lost the team, team management and the fans at San Francisco right?
