re: If you could change one rule in one of the three major sports, what would it be?

reminds me of playing at the Y. theres no foul count so everyone plays more physical, which decreases anyone ever finishing at the rim. thats not good basketball to watch.

I'm sure if your beloved team was the Braves in that exact situation you still wouldn't be over it. Don't act like it wouldn't affect you either.

I do think that if the game goes to overtime, players should be granted an extra foul before fouling out.

I'm ok with that, as long as you didn't foul out in regulation first.
As far as a rule change, I think the NFL should explore changing the rule that "the ground" cannot cause a fumble. A receiver has to maintain possession all the way to the ground, why can't a running back do the same?
If you maintain possession through the tackle on the ground, you're down. If you lose the ball when your elbow hits the turf, its a fumble.

Offsides in soccer and hockey need to be done away with. Amazing how basketball has never had to resort to a like rule

I would institute a 4 point shot in the NBA

NFL PI rules, 15 yards opposed to spot of the foul

Best one so far Imo.

i think once the player takes off, the defensive player should have to be already planted. if not, then it's a block or a no call.

I believe the nBA rule is that the defense has to be set BEFORE the offense player leaves the ground. Basically he has to be set before the offense player has committed to go up. I read this as before he plants that last foot to take off.
This call is missed ALL the time.

NBA: The timeout ball at halfcourt rule.

I wouldn't mind seeing a rule in football where if the defense scores a touchdown, they get the ball instead of having to kick it right back to the other team.
That would make defensive touchdowns even more exciting and create a bigger reward for the scoring team.

In hockey, the 2+2
It's when they call a hooking penalty, then also call a diving penalty on the guy who got hooked.
dumbest farking rule there is. it's either a hook or a dive, not both, you farking idiots.

Every rule in the last ten years or so dealing with making football "safer". Has ruined the watchability of the NFL.

Football - get rid of illegal contact by pass defenders. Keep PI and holding, but allow some contact down the field to help defenders and incidentally, reduce big hits because there won't be as much space.
Soccer - eliminate offsides inside 20 yards or so. The offside trap rewards teams for not playing defense.
Hockey - actually enforce interference, regulate the size of goalie equipment, and think about slowly increasing the size of the nets, starting in juniors.
Baseball - a reliever who enters the game after an inning has started must face at least two batters unless he suffers an injury. If removed after one batter, he is automatically placed on 15-day DL to prevent gaming the rule.
Basketball - widen the court

Excellent idea. Basically repeal the Mel Blount rule.

Football teams can commit penalties all game long. You penalize them and reward the opponent with FTs.
It's also a collision sport

All the stupid personal fouls in football.
End game
End game

I'd change this one as well

If anything, the DH rule needs to also be implemented in the NL. I get no enjoyment out of watching pitchers bat.
The strategy in the NL is far more important than the AL because NL does not have DH. Joe Torre managed in both leagues and he said as much.
I'll never forget the 4th of July Miracle:
Rick Camp hits a HR

The Dwayne Wade rule.. If a defender jumps on a pump fake the offensive player shouldn't be able to jump into them resulting in a foul and fts.
Now this only applies if the defender is nowhere near the shooting space. If the defender jumps into the shooting space it is acceptable IMO.
Hope that makes sense.
