Just sucks that the injuries and personal stuff didn't allow him to coast to the finish.

Incredible injuries, and early in his career.

The guy has had five back surgeries, including spinal fusion in 2017, and his left leg has been operated on five times. Before we get to the big car crash that shattered his leg.

PGA loves Tiger and his new thick arse shoulders
I wouldn’t be shocked to learn Tiger took PEDs

But he could have EASILY reached his fitness level simply doing his workouts clean

He got REALLY into fitness(which you already know)

F Tiger.....golf is way better w/o that druggie.
Odd you say this after wrongly predicting he’d never win again and then seeing how MASSIVE his 2019 Masters win was

At his peak, Tiger was the greatest golfer who ever lived. Injuries and a fricking crazy personal life were what did him in.

However, with the torque of his swing comes the potential for injury and that is exactly what happened. The joints can only take so much stressful repetition before they break down.

Is it really the case that his swing created so much torque that he was bound to fall apart at a young age? That doesn’t seem to make sense on its face. If his body was strong enough to generate the torque, it should be strong enough to handle the torque it generated.
I’m not claiming to be correct on this, just saying that the “swing was too powerful” idea seems bogus to me.

Lots of pro athletes have their bodies fail them long before most other people their age. It comes with the territory

But we are talking about golf. He wasn’t taking hits from other people.

He's a 46 year old with a history of substance abuse and reckless behavior.

He should be thankful to have made it this far

I would love to see an event where todays golfers had to play with the equipment from the 70's. Driver heads 1/3 the size of today and a penny size sweet spot.

They had to Tiger-proof courses and Tiger was criticized for using inferior equipment until he upgraded.

If you have every tour pro in..2005 the clubs Nicklaus had in.,.'75. Tiger would have even more wins. Think of golf tech like expansion baseball... Pitchers that might but have made the show get a spot

I think he had 5 or so years of peak performance before the scandal broke. That fricks with a man's mine in a way very few will understand. Post accident that should have saw his leg taken, he's done for sure

Much of golf is played between the ears, the early golfers had the pressure of trying to make a living which meant winning.

Woods was rich immediately once he turned pro so that pressure was off, plus better equipment and training than the early golfers had gave him an advantage.

I remember seeing him on the Johnny Carson show when hen was around 3 years old so he was groomed his whole life.

We are talking apples and oranges here when we are comparing the older golfers to him, different times, equipment and mentality can’t be compared.

The golfers today don’t have the pressure to win, they can get rich by making it to Sunday. Not much to drive to drive good competition these days which makes it boring.

Tiger was known for his drive. He trained liked a fiend and for long spurts practiced like one too.

Tiger’s problem wasn’t a lack of drive but a lack of personal discipline. With all the temptations that come with being a superstar athlete that can be just as important.

And he still won 83 tournaments.

Plus he is probably the most accomplished amateur player ever.

Money had nothing to do with his success

His off the course issues cost him some prime years and like his dad said he shouldn’t have gotten married. What made him have that run he had where he was the most dominant player ever for awhile was that he was maniacal in his prep and practice work. Once that slipped he began to slip then the injuries and personal crap crept in and slowed him some more. He’ll end up being #2 all time but he is the most talented golfer ever and his 10 year run was the most impressive we’ll probably ever see.

Money and supporting a family off winning was certainly never a worry for him since he was dirty rich when he went pro. That concern was never between his ears.

No doubt he was the best of those who came up with him and many times all he had to do was watch the field fold down the stretch. He had a good run in his time no doubt.

Did he fade too quickly?
NO, he didn't fade too quickly! Listen, Tiger Woods is responsible for the demise of his career, and no one else is. He just lost control, he was married to a beautiful wife with 2 beautiful kids. He had it all and just lost control by thinking he was above the normal world like a lot of celebrities do. He thought he was bigger than life when he stumbled, but already had 14 majors by that time. shite, he would have broken Nicklaus' record if he hadn't been sleeping around with all of these women behind his wife's back. Smh

But his wife finds him out, chases him out of the house, and he crashes the car and the rest is history. People can say whatever they want about Nicklaus being better and that's why he's got the record and all of this, but Tiger Woods would have shattered that record if he hadn't gone anal. Jack is an all-time great, but Jack even said Tiger was playing golf at that time like no one had ever seen. Nicklaus raved about his game. Woods had top golfers afraid of him at that time when they were paired with him, they would fall off the course with bogeys everywhere. Lol Sure, he had injuries, but it was mostly his back then, and it was not affecting him a whole lot because he was still very young. Tiger was also lost without his support system during those troubling times - his Pops. He didn't know who to turn to for the help he needed in guiding him out of those dark days.

It isn’t the swing it’s the points in the body that aren’t meant to sustain that type of stress. Think of a sliding glass door it can be slid back and forth as fast as you want but you start applying that force out of the tracks alignment and eventually something will break.

My, albeit limited, understanding is his career was always going to be injury filled due to knee torque while driving.

Lee Trevino spoke of this in the early days of TWs pro career.

Woods would generate tons of power and speed on his downswing, which gave him lots of distance but it eventually caught up with him. Bad back, bad knees, probably a few other injuries.

BTW, TW played against mediocre competition, best competition was Phil M. PM cost himself several majors by his aggressive play.

Jack Nicklaus played and won against some of the all-time greats of golf.
Greats like Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, Tom Watson, Lee Trevino, Billy Casper.

JN played against other good golfers like Weiskopf, Dave Stockton, Hubert Green, Hale Irwin, Johnny Miller.

Who was TWs major competitors? Mostly Phil, Ernie Els and Vijay.

JN was booming 300 yard drives with a wood persimmon driver and balata golf balls.

TW is no doubt one of the all-time greats of golf but considering all the competition that Jack played against, Palmer, Watson, Player, Trevino...there is no comparison.

JN had a lot of runners-up in the majors as well as lots of 3rd place finishes.
