Are you riding Bama’s coattails two days before y’all play them? Don’t kid yourself. 2005-2015 didn’t come down to LSU/Bama all the time. That only happened once.
shite, LSU lost a bunch of games in that span (5 games in 2008, 4 in 2009, 3 in 2012, 3 in 2013, 4 in 2013, 4 in 2015).

Nope. Once Tebow left he was done.

LSU wins in 2011 if not for Saban and is in a semifinal SECCG with UGA to beat ND in 2012 also. Potentially sitting on 3 titles after 2012 100% changes the mediocre last couple years of Miles.

Meyer was never going to stay anywhere long. 6 or 7 seasons was about his max. I think back to the Steve Spurrier quote of in modern times with huge coaching salaries and bloated football budgets 12 years is about the max a coach can stay and be effective. Yes, Saban lasted 17 at Alabama but that was an anomaly and anyone who watched and is honest with themselves he looked absolutely miserable on the sidelines his last 3 seasons.

In fifty years, will Meyer still be on the list?
Then numbers will be more memorable than personalities:
Bear Bryant
Joe Paterno
Bowden
Tom Osborne
Looking up Osborne

Another fun "what if" is what would Carroll's resume look like had their been a 4 team playoff during his tenure.

Meyer's downfall had everything to do with Meyer and little to do with Saban (or anyone else, for that matter). The traits that made him successful are the same traits that led to his demise.
He's extremely good at building a program though he was equally poor at maintaining one. Both parts of the equation are difficult but, in my opinion, sustaining or maintaining success is more difficult because of the battle with complacency. Saban & Meyer were both successful in evaluating talent and developing them as football players. However, only Saban was able to develop them into young men off the field.
Meyer's approach was to build the best football program possible, really at any figurative cost. But the fiery edge he's so well-known for also led to burnout and issues off the field because of how narrowly-focused he, and thus his players, was.

Probably not but it's crazy the disrespect he gets.

Les Miles was 3-3 against Urban.
3-7 against Saban
3-7 against Saban

Saban ran Spurrier off while at LSU, then ran Urban off from Tuscaloosa.

you’re forgetting how many recruiting battles came down to LSU and Bama in those days. With no Saban Les gets 1 or 2 more top end guys a year and wins probably 2 more titles. Not goat status but he would be thought of very differently.

What is ole Les up to these days?
Posted on 11/7/24 at 3:11 pm to Gaggle
No, because if Saban stayed in the NFL then Les Miles would have probably won 2 or 3 more natties. Alabama wouldn’t have been poaching nearly as much in-state talent from LSU

Hell, how many titles would Bowden have won if there had been a playoff back then?

If Saban stays in the NFL, Les Miles and LSU have more natties.

I can think of at least 5 I’d take over them. Not even sure that was a better roster than 2008 Florida

I was thinking this. Hard to say because I think both Bama and LSu being so...epic for that period made each other better ( so maybe Bama sans Saban creates less of a standard for LSU ) but...I think LSU /Miles has 3 min but probably 4 titles
I think Riicht jumps in with a possible 2 ...3 they had some serious talent in Athens also
