Like they should have really...do you think they would have gone on to beat the dawgs in atlanta? We know the winner was gonna feast off BK in the title game. Georgia was pretty good that year as was LSU. PICKEM IMO

you could have named the number and i would taken LSU ML live after the fumble then JC Copeland catch and run. Tiger stadium was exploding. As loud as ever has been or will be

Yep was field level and couldn’t talk to the person standing next to me. Then the TM replacement ate the fake and you could hear a pin drop.

That was my freshman year. You could feel the air shaking around you from the noise. All that to F it up.

There was a steady roar in between plays that game. Absolutely electrifying

That was a brutal loss

When I was a kid I had an electric football game and it was a touchdown every time I called a screen against a blitz.

God damn hearing Verne and Gary on a call gives me all the nostalgia

I guess you should've given this information to John Chavis.
As for the original post, it was a helluva game that gave Tide fans their built-in excuse for losing to A&M the next week. The SEC championship was arguably better with UGA basically blowing it at the end. We'll never know, but I don't think LSU beats the Dawgs if they get by Bama.
The SEC had a handful of teams that year that would've beaten Notre Dame in the natty.

Les would have blown it at Arkansas that year had they beaten bama

Copeland made a great play. And then made a stupid play that changed the game… we win if he doesn’t commit that personal foul at the goalie.

I was at the game with an LSU chick from Texas that I hooked up with at Hangout Fest, and I was one of what seemed like only a few Bama fans in the entire south endzone. Just tiny, spread-out red dots in an ocean of drunken purple. That whole sequence was kind of a blur. The madness of the crowd was disorientating. I remember thinking that in that atmosphere, there was no way we were winning that game, and I was already thinking about how shitty it was going to be trying to get out of the stadium.
Then the drive and screen pass happened and I was almost in a state of shock. I tried my best to keep my elation and celebration to a minimum as to not get lynched by the crowd I was in. Most everyone was classy and fine after the game though. Definitely one of the most fun days/nights I've had while on this earth.

This game, Ole Miss in 14 (I think the low scoring and) and South Carolina were easily the loudest games of that era

Forget all that, ending Bama's repeat bid that night probably prevents Saban's Reign of Terror from happening the rest of the decade, exacts revenge for the dumb mulligan Bama got against us on 1.9.2012, and maybe sets LSU for a natty run if not that year then 2013 when that offense was humming. Think how that changes the dynamic of the SEC power struggle (and Les Miles' legacy) if Les and Saban are tied with 2 natties at their respective programs then. If Mark Richt beats LSU then BK, how that affects his legacy and would Kirby ever coach there. So many big picture scenarios boiling down to this one game.

I think so.
Menttenberger before the second half of that game had been ok, but nothing truly special to that point. That night in the second half he was unstoppable. Alabama beat the shite out of him and he just kept making plays. Before that game he had only thrown for 200+ yards twice...vs. Idaho and Towson. In that game and the rest of the regular season he went for 200+ in every game. I think LSU's offense would have taken the next step the rest of the way had they won.
The Alabama TD to end the game will never be the thing that makes me angry. It was Les's decision to take the ball out of Mett's hands in Alabama territory where a 1st down ended the game. Les was a coward at the end with a red hot QB and chose to play for a FG that even if good still would have left it a one score game. LSU was in position to drive the stake through the heart...and they chose not to.
Yep. That was an electric a second half scene as I can remember. I always say if you want to get a feel for Tiger Stadium at its peak without actually being there watch the broadcast of that play. Specifically the camera angle down the LSU sideline after the play where the picture was literally shaking because of the crowd.
Until the first half of the 2019 game, that second half was the only time I can remember Saban looking helpless against LSU.

I'd love to hear the logic behind this one.
