I guess Payton wasn’t exactly wrong about Hackett being terrible

Over the summer, Rodgers collaborated with Hackett to construct the offense — Saleh, as usual, was hands-off on that side of the ball. Rodgers and Hackett’s relationship dynamic is more frat brothers than player/coach, and Rodgers appreciates having the free will to operate the system as he sees fit. Both Rodgers and Hackett call the offense “quarterback friendly,” but as the Jets learned in 2023, that might only apply to one quarterback.
“That’s what Aaron wants” was a common refrain from Hackett as he told coaches what plays he wanted to run during camp. Often, Rodgers would hear Hackett’s play call and want something else, so the entire offense would reset.
quote:
Growing pains were expected in a new offense full of new personnel, but one coach said it was concerning how little urgency Hackett and his staff showed in trying to fix it, saying he’d never seen a team watch less practice tape in training camp than the Jets did with Hackett.
quote:
Hackett struggled to adjust the offense to the team’s new reality. Multiple coaches and players described Hackett as lacking in attention to detail. For most of the season, Hackett would meet with offensive line coach/running game coordinator Keith Carter and passing game coordinator Todd Downing during the week but wouldn’t get together with the rest of the offensive staff until the “last minute” of game prep.
During games, Hackett struggled to make adjustments. Against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2, Carter asked Hackett to give left tackle Duane Brown more help blocking Cowboys star pass rusher Micah Parsons, according to multiple team sources. But Hackett never adjusted, and Parsons dominated (two sacks, four QB hits) in a 30-10 loss.
quote:
Hackett will return as the offensive coordinator in 2024, though team and league sources say Saleh has explored adding to the offensive staff and creating a more collaborative play-calling process that would reduce Hackett’s role, a clear indication the team has lost confidence in his ability to run the offense on his own. Rodgers has been involved in those discussions.
The Athletic….Jets are a bit of a mess
I’m sure all those blue check marks that were clutching pearls over his comments will promptly eat their crow

I dont think anyone disagreed that Hackett sucks. It's just not the norm for an another coach to say so.

Watching some of those Jets games, I felt bad for Zach Wilson because he wasn't put in a position to succeed at all. Yeah, Rodgers can overcome a shitty situation like that, but a guy in his third season isn't ready for that.

That fricking timeout call in the first game
Ugh
Ugh

Right. It's obvious that he sucked but Payton didn't have to publicly call out the guy for no reason after he had been fired. Unprofessional.

knew the Jets were fricked during Hard Knocks when the guy wouldn't shut up about austin powers 3

Kind of falls on Saleh too, doesn’t it?
Who is that hands off to let the offense like just fluster like that without putting a foot in someone’s arse?

Shitty coaches. Robert Saleh. Les Miles.

Still wasn't his place to call him out. They had numerous analysts and other pundits publicly stating the obvious already. The comments were unprofessional and very insecure. Looks especially bad when he turns around and goes 1-3 his first 4 games, including a game where the Dolphins simply decided to stop scoring after 70.

It’s possible for Payton to be both correct and unprofessional.
Also, let’s not forget that a good portion of the media and fans have a massive hate boner (rightly or wrongly) for Sean Payton and love to shite all over him.
I say all this as a Broncos fan who is “meh” about Payton, but also thinks Hackett is a legitimate retard.

To be fair, Miles wasn't hands off on offense. If he was, LSU may have won 10 titles.

The Jets didn’t do Saleh any favors by hiring Hackett and signing a bunch of Aaron’s friends in free agency long before they officially acquired Rodgers.
They let Rodgers hijack the franchise, and relegated Saleh to a figurehead.

Nobody should feel bad for Zach Wilson

This.
Coaches don’t insult their peers publicly, especially their predecessor or successor.

The only problem is, SP is about to roll the dice on dogshit Jimmy G and draft a later round QB. Denver won’t go anywhere then.
