Not only are the mediocre again is brewing over the fight song as it is racist to some.

Players walked off the field when it played last week and donors are pissed.

Tell the players to frick off. They can find new players, it's a lot harder to find more rich people willing to give them money.

ETA: The song isn't racist, it's just old. People need to get over this whole thing about everything from the past being racist.

Unfortunately the mob is probably going to win this one.

It’s a scary domino to see fall. Tradition is what makes CFB great. The second these start getting unjustly eliminated is when the alienation of fans and alums speeds up.

What are the consequences if the players don’t participate? They will be shredded by the media.

Austin is the liberal hellhole of Texas.

They will have to cancel anything that offends anyone. Sorry, UT. Time to cave to the mob.

True, but it’s been diluted the past decade or so with it be corporatized and having more of a NFL developmental league feel to it. Pageantry and tradition has been long gone in my opinion. Once coaches started making 6 plus million a year and recruiting became a 24/7 type of business with all these experts and star rankings. It’s not the same game as it once was.

The bow to the mob on this one and the donors are threatening to walk apparently.

The woke left don't build $100 million facilities.

Players don't really understand a brand. They are trying to frick with the brand. Big money donors and most supporters aren't going to put up with it.

Their entire AD is just in shambles for about a decade now.

Whats wrong with the fight song? It's pretty simple in it's lyrics.

You people sure love turning everything into a race thing.

Ehlinger was the only one that stayed out there after the game. Has more to do with Herman losing the team and their culture than it has to do with race

I was wondering the same thing... apparently "The eyes of Texas are upon you" - which isn't the actual fight song anyway - were inspired by Robert E Lee telling graduates of Washington & Lee University that the eyes of the South are on upon them.

And as we all know, EVERYTHING associated with Robert E Lee is racist as all hell.

Also the song was used in minstrel shows iirc. So in typical SJW fashion, things can never lose their stigma and become positive, only be canceled.

I just read about it because I got confused by this thread and the "controversy." Apparently, the lyrics aren't racist at all, but how the song was performed was. Frequently, it was performed in blackface in very old times.

So Texas should no longer keep a tradition because at one point in time someone racist performed the song. We are truly in the dumbest timeline.

Here are the lyrics:

The Eyes of Texas are upon you,

All the livelong day.

The Eyes of Texas are upon you,

You cannot get away.

Do not think you can escape them

At night or early in the morn --

The Eyes of Texas are upon you

'Til Gabriel blows his horn.

Not sure how this is racist, but this article attempts to explain it.

Not about the players.

It is about the Marxist/Maoist agitators who weasel their way into athletics and manipulate players in to taking political positions they don't fully understand.
