Ohio State could argue a case to be more or just as successful programs as LSU over the last 18 years despite having championships less

I'm going to need to see your math on this one.

Did you purposely only go back 18 seasons because on the 19th season Ohio State won the championship?

Dude, 18 seasons is a commonly accepted time frame for benchmarking.

Using 19 or even 20 years is just dumb.

For an individual, not much.

Anyone who overrates them and will say player A is better than player B because of the rings will always box themselves in with that argument.

You could make an argument that if LSU, Arkansas, Ole miss, or Mississippi state played in the big 12 since 2008, that each would have made either a bcs or cfp appearance.

no, LSU did make both, the others would make no more than Texas Tech or Ok St did just stop

But at the end of the day, in the grand scheme of things, do championships really matter all that much?

Do sports really matter that much unless you're the one playing? Otherwise it's just like any other entertainment.

The Tampa Bay Bucs have more super bowl wins than the Chicago Bears and LA Rams. I would definitely consider both of those franchises far superior to the Bucs. The Saints have as many SB titles as the Bears and just one less appearance.

You raise an interesting point. I agree that the Bears are overrated.

There would be plenty of dispute. I still think it’s one of the 4-5 best teams imo. I’d take them over any of the 7 Brady actually won with But I don’t think them winning that game changes my mind on the 85 Bears or 89 49ers

Baylor, TCU, and Oklahoma State have all come incredibly close to playoff/BCSNCG appearances in the past decade. Not sure why its so impossible

When assessing for all-time success, championships are important but long-term success is way more important imo. If Oregon had managed to win the BCSCG, it wouldn't automatically make them a better program than West Virginia or Wisconsin, just as Florida having three championships does not make them a better program than Michigan who only has two modern championships

Because Ark, Miss St and OM haven’t been as good as those teams in those years.

This was OM first 10 win season and they still lost to Big 12 Champ Baylor. MSU best season was 2014 they lost to Ga Tech in the Orange Bowl, do they beat Baylor and TCU that year? Not a fan of the Transitive property but MSU lost to OM who got destroyed by TCU. Arkansas best case is 2011. They did beat KState who finished tied for 2nd in Big 12. Could they have beat Ok St? Sure depends on when and where they play.

2000 season was technically last century but the Orange Bowl was in 2001

Clearly OU has been a much better program than Auburn it’s not even arguable

CFB is different because titles were mostly mythical until the 90s.

It would be interesting to see what the breakdown would be if the previous tie is were used. The SEC wouldn't have nearly as many titles.

You mean when conference champs still had all the tie-ins before the Bowl Alliance in 95?
FWIW, there were a few actual title games before then. The Jan 69 Rose Bowl between #1 Ohio St and #2 USC for the AP title (Buckeyes had already been voted #1 in the Coaches poll).

The Saints won as many playoff games in one season('09), as the Bears have this century.

Maybe LSU is the team that gets hosed the most, we don’t win in 2003 or 2007 under the old pre BCS standards. But we probably win 2011, would they schedule a rematch? Of years an SEC did not win Bama probably wins 2014 2016 and 2018 though Clemson probably wins 2015 and 17 unless the ACC was free to go anywhere.

If the BCS was in place in 96 Florida doesn’t even play for it. That’s what he strange thing about CFB. Under different systems you can get different NC without even changing results of games
