I think Felix Hernandez has 7 or 8 in his whole career so far. But the best HS pitcher would get a few over a season?

I just have to point out again how stupid this post is.

Excellent point. I used to catch bullpen for a guy in the minors when I was in high school. I also faced guys throwing 90+ and nobody even came close to having the movement he did. There was never a flat pitch. And this guy never even made it to the show. Those MLB pitchers would eat high school hitters alive.

They would for sure win a few. Think of Strasburg and Harper on that team along with Trout

Both of those guys maybe generational players and the best we have seen in decades. MAYBE. They are the elite of the elite thus far.

And STILL, Stras logged 75 innings in the minor leagues, plus development coaching and pitching outside of the AA & AAA games he played for a year and a half before the majors.

Trout even more. 1040 minor league at bats before last year. 2 full years of development.

High school team gets lucky and wins a few (like about 3-4) if you are talking a 160 game schedule, but no more.

Haha. Astros would destroy them nightly.

Felix Hernandez

Logged 306 innings in the minors from 2003-2005 before being called up to Seattle later in 2005.

Two full years worth of minor league development.

They should.

They just destroyed the Rangers two nights ago. I don't think they would have a problem with high school kids.

Can you please stop looking at a once in a lifetime player from over 20 years ago? .

It's been over 20 years, so who's to say that there isn't an 18 year old of that caliber this year?

quote:

shite, even that once in a lifetime player had to spend some time in the minors out of high school because he wasn't totally ready for the majors.

He spent time in the minors, but that doesn't mean he wasn't ready. They start everybody in the minors, and the fact that he was only in the minors for a year suggests that he probably didn't need to be there at all.

You do realize that Gooden would only be able to make 33 of the 162 starts? Y

Yes.

You do realize that he wouldn't be able to go 9 innings a start?

He pitched several complete games at 19. So, no I don't realize that.

You do realize that he would have a high school defense behind him making errors?

Are you serious? You don't think the best HS player in the country can field a ground ball? Or catch a fly ball? Fielding is not an issue.

quote:

You do realize that even if he was throwing a shutout, the MLB pitcher would also be breezing through a lineup of highschoolers?

Our team has Bryce Harper. I thought we'd been through this.

So maybe the high school team could win if the greatest high school pitcher ever threw the best game of his life, while his defense had the best game of their lives, while the opposing MLB pitcher had the worst game of his life. Maybe

Probably.

They wouldn't. Astros would go 162-0 vs them.

He pitched 3 shutouts that year (which is what he would need to beat the MLB team since his lineup would be lucky to get a run)

But I guess without the minor league experience and with a MUCH worse defense we can still expect high school Gooden to be shutting out MLB teams on the reg

God some people are going full retard in here

We haven't even touched on defense really either. Hs team would average at least 5 errors a game and many more that would be basehits because they'd be rockets that would eat up the infielders.

Shutouts against HS teams cannot be compared to MLB hitters

Omg Dwight gooden was awesome at age 19 therefore a team of hs players could beat a major league team

Awesome logic

Straight out of high school, no minor league experience? It would be an issue for a good bit. Infielders especially would struggle for a while.

You couldn't even put together a team of guys that made the majors by 18 or 19 historically that would be able to win consistently when you look at their rookie years.

Well, they would get 20-30 runs put on them every game

They might get lucky and score 5-7 runs in a 1 game hypo
