First QB ever to throw for 4000 yards in a season...... but IMO Griese is the one that puzzles me... sure he won two SB’S , but he was on some serious stacked teams. In his second SB game he only three 7 passes.... and the year before when the Dolphins went unbeaten he was out most of the year.......
Back then a big focus was making sure players from great teams got in. Csonka shouldn't be in either. Stallworth and Swann too but they were all the marquee offensive names on epic teams. The last one in that category was Terrell Davis plus he had the NFL network exposure. Free agency and more teams winning multiple super bowls has changed things.

I agree...... but Eli will get in more for his last name than anything he did on the field.......

He got 2 rings and was above average he should get in 1st ballot.

That's why he'll get in because more people remember that stuff than him throwing a bunch of interceptions in the middle of some season they went 7-9.
Which one of his many awful seasons are you referring to?

This...should be easy selection
No one doubts he’s getting into the HOF.
It’s more so he’s not deserving of it. He never had a season as clear cut top 5 QB. He would join Aikman as the only post 1970 players without a single All Pro selection. Never led the NFL in any major passing categories other than most INTs.
That 2007 season, he wasn’t very good in the regular season. He was efficient in the first two playoff games but wasn’t asked to do a whole lot. He struggled in the NFC CG. He won SB MVP but that helmet catch wasn’t the best throw, and he was incredibly lucky it was caught. It would’ve been incomplete like 9/10 times because of how insane that was. And prior to that drive, he wasn’t having that good of a game. His defense is the one that held that historic offense to WELL below their averages. They shut down Randy Moss.
He deserves a lot of credit for that 2011 season though. He wasn’t a clear cut top 5 QB but he had an argument. He played pretty damn well in the post season too. But that’s his only overall great season he’s ever had.

I hope his bust is him making that “I’m a fricking moron” face that he made so famous.

Ya'll should be polishing Eli's trophies and thanking him for not having to hear about the undefeated season the New England Bradys had.

Namath isn’t his peer.
Relative to their peers, Namath led the league in passing yards 3 times and was top 5 6 times. Top 5 in TDs 7 times, passer rating 4 times, and passing yds per game 7 times. 5 pro bowls and 1x all pro.
Eli? Top 5 in yards 3x, never higher than 4th. 4x top 5 in TDs, never top 5 in passer rating and only a single season top 10, and 1x top 5 TDs per game. 4 pro bowls, never all pro.
Yeah, Eli is substantially worse than Namath relative to his peers.
Always find it funny when people try to compare passing numbers from the 1960s and 1970s to the 2000s and 2010s. When Namath retired, he was 7th all-time in passing yards. Now he's 65th. Namath was the first QB to throw for 4000 yards. This year alone 12 QB accomplished that. The NFL is just a little bit more geared towards passing offense than it was 50 years ago

First ballot, Peyton and Archie will be stumping like crazy for him and they have a lot of friends on the selection committee.

Namath is probably the worst QB in the Hall right now.
Fixed.

1st ballot. He isn’t the GOAT and in my memory, he was never a superstar... but his pedigree and record speak for itself.

People were in awe of Namath that's how different the NFL was.
Al Davis of course loved him because Namath could bomb the ball down the field.
But in SB III, Namath had 17 completions for 206 yards. But his Avg/Yards per attempt was 7.1. That was considered mighty gutsy.
Colts Avg/Yards per attempt was 4.4.
Different times, different game than today.
Namath got in not just because of Broadway Joe and Super Bowl III; peers and coaches thought he was special at the time...that's the only way you can look at it...not stats in retrospect.

Lmao. A QB with two superbowls should not be a first ballot HF.
One superbowl team was 10-6, the other 9-7. Its not like they had some dominant players around him. Brees has had way better supporting casts and has failed to win the NFC more than once.
Same thing with Aaron Rodgers. He should absolutely be in the HF on the first ballot

He’s a manning. NFL royalty and 2 Super Bowl wins.
First ballot although I think he should be a 2nd or 3rd ballot

This post is all over the place. Eli was a good NFL QB that went on 2 nice playoff runs. If people want to put him in the HOF bc he won 2 SBs then fine I guess but to compare him to no brainer 1st ballot HOFrs like his brother, Rodgers, or Brees is just crazy talk. Big Ben has had a MUCH BETTER career than Eli and has 2 SBs and I’m not sure if he would be a 1st ballot guy.

The first year he is eligible.

I don't understand why the Mannings have such a cult following with the NFL brass ? Archie wasn't anything special in New Orleans. Peyton is top 5 all time. But the Nfl and the networks all treat archie and the mannings as if they were Prince Charles and The British Royalty for some reason. Never understood the dick sucking going on.
