Or 100 years, MLB has overvalued the homerun

The reason is because most of the time, the team that scores the most runs in one inning wins the game. Easier to have a big inning when at least one home run is involved.

Can tell you’re pretty ignorant to the whole thing.

Didn’t you just ask? If you knew better why ask?

So it could be possible that changes in data and player development have benefitted one side of the ball more than the other?

It has nothing to do with data and everything to do with money.

Teams have decided to spend money on all this to…spend less money? There is no salary floor in MLB. If they’re that interested in saving money they can just go ahead and not spend it

They are saving money while the league declines

The team spending in baseball has taken a nosedive since 2015 in personnel areas when you adjust for inflation and compare the increases to previous decades.

Why is that because of analytics as you suggest? They can choose to spend less on player salaries for any reason they want, and also spend zero dollars on a fully staffed analytics department.

No you can’t, there’s a players union and CBAs

A simpler perspective would be to ask, what part of the game has it improved?

Yes, they can. Teams can nontender a player or lowball a free agent for whatever reason they want. There isn't a salary floor in the CBA and never has been. So why would they spend millions per year on this stuff?

How are they going to make money if they just dump all the good players? Your theory works in a vacuum but it’s impossible league wide.

Well you're talking about saving money, not making money. This is your theory pal, not mine. Feel free to flesh it out whenever you wish.

Yes, they can.

The league has to split 47 or 48% of revenue with the players no matter what. The league literally cannot spend less.
