Him getting credit for a system that is not his either is somewhat fun. But hey whatever.
that's like saying rich rod (or urban) didn't invent the spread option b/c it was created in the 30s or some shite
also, leach and mumme created the offense together, but even then, you can say lavel edwards "Created" it
but, regardless, leach proliferated the offense in major CFB and became a great HC. Mumme is the OC of an XFL team after his career cratered once Leach moved on. obviously Mumme was the brains of their offense

WSU's history is being good during the Bledsoe/Leaf years and terrible beyond that.
Other than the Price years, they've played football since 1917 and had three 9 or more win seasons. Price and Leach are literally the only two coaches to make WSU anythingother than awful.

Some people only see success as winning titles which would be a miserable way to be a fan of a crap program like WSU.
The ironic thing about that is beefense would have gone to the end of the earth to defend les miles up until the day he was fired from LSU, when it was clear he had positioned the program to not compete for, much less win, any titles anytime soon.
And if I had to guess, I’m sure he’s arguing in the Kansas thread about how great of a coach Miles is.
ETA: What amazes me is the people like you with these takes don't realize how bad the Kansas team was when he walked in the door.... It is bizarre to act like he isn't changing things for the better.
^^^ this came after his multiple posts in this thread about leach not doing anything successful at WSU

An above average team in a terrible conference is success?
Washington State winning 9-10 games in the PAC 12 is a success.
Can you imagine someone coming in at Oregon State and going 11-2 anytime soon in the PAC 12? Because Wazzu was where Oregon State is right now before he came in.

Yes he beat them when Sark was there but he is 1-6 against them. Petersen is 5-0 vs him.

Did I ask for him to get fired? He deserved what he got at Tech for lying to Meyers
And Tech has been dogshit ever since. Great move by them.

i don't think anyone is claiming peterson is an inferior coach (especially overall, including recruiting) to Leach, bruv

How many bowl games had Wazzu been to before Leach got there?
How many have they been to since?

He's an out of the box kind of thinker. Instead of being formula driven, he's able to see in 3D.

Not reading the whole thread so I’m not sure if anyone has said it but one of the big reasons why none of the major players will hire Leach is his disdain for all of the excessive media expectations. No I’m not talking about the ones after practice that every coach does (like the one where he just dropped the mascot battle royals knowledge). I’m talking all the extra outlets you get interviewed by, the weekly coach call in shows, all the ads and sponsorships, wining and dining with the big boosters, all the stuff that eats up a lot of time that we don’t always see.
The dude loves coaching and teaching his system. He’s a throwback from before all the fluff that came with college football. He’s a smart guy too.
If I had to give an analogy, he’s like an old school 70s/80s NASCAR driver who spoke his mind unfiltered and didn’t really much care about all the fluff. Let me work on my car and drive. That’s it. A lot of big programs want that modern “face of the franchise” guy who does all the corporate kiss assing and such and the only time they interact with the car is racing it.

I was answering a question if Leach had ever beat UDub. Bruh.

Nick Saban never won a conference title at Sparty. Hell, his best year there kinda mimic's Leach's best year at Tech. Saban upset #1 Ohio State at home, but got smashed by Heisman winning Ron Dayne and Wisconsin who won the conference and went to the Rose Bowl. Leach upset #1 Texas at home but got smashed by Heisman winning Sam Bradford and OU who won the conference and went to the NCG.
Difference is Saban got a new job at a school who was the top school in a very talent rich state that was just on hard times. Leach went to a school that has a shite history that's second fiddle in their own state in bumfrick rural Washington. Both got the most of what they could at their new jobs.
Leach is the best coach ever at Tech bar none. Remains to be seen if he can surpass Price at Wazzu but if he makes a Rose Bowl (not unthinkable given the state of the conference) then he has a case. I just don't think winning at natty at Wazzu is a realistic expectation/measuring stick.

A natty at WSU would be the most impressive feat in college football coaching history, IMO. WSU isn't like Dabo at Clemson where they had a lot of raw materials to work with.
The only school remotely comparable to WSU to win a natty since the 50's or 60's is BYU in '84, and that was 35 years ago. Even there, BYU has the built in advantage of being THE school for a LDS athlete.

He can coach, and takes advantage of mismatches.
Teams can barely field 2 corners who can cover, so he makes use of 4 or 5 wr, and Thus taking advantages of mismatches.

Mike Leach has, or at one time use to have, a home in the Florida keys. The thought of him taking over Miami is a cary thought with all of that talent down there.
His flamboyant personality would fit in extremely well at the U. Miami is one of those under-performing programs that needs the right guy to come in and it would take off.
I think South Carolina would be another great place for Leach. All he does is go into struggling programs and turn them into winners.

Leach at the U would be incredible. His personality is fine and it opens the doors to athletes he hasn't had before.
He'd blow the doors off people if he could recruit half decently.

Leach is a system coach.
System coaches can get more out of a player, who fits the system, then their recruiting stars indicate.
It's all about finding the right players matched to the right system.
Plus, with the exception of one kid who's dad killed 5 hookers... most players like playing for him and players play better in those situations.
