From what I’ve heard is he likes football, doesn’t love it. Would you agree?

he's super smart and that's not a good thing

guys like Fitzmagic are rare and he didn't exactly come into the league with expectations

See my other post. It's obvious Herbert returned for his senior year because he has options outside of football. I think Herbert plays football because he was gifted athletically to do so but I feel his heart & future is in the medical field.

Mahomes was further along as a junior than Herbert was last year.

I saw Pat Mahomes come in and torch a more talented Arkansas team when tbe Hogs were still actually halfway decent.

Mahomes was their whole team and kept coming and coming and making plays. He was also far far more accurate than Herbert and could throw on the run incredibly well and scramble, all while always looking to throw downfield... All stuff that translated to the NFL.

Comparing him to Herbert is just moronic if you ever saw that dude play in college.

Herbert is much more of a poor man's Josh Allen.

I surely didn't. I was beating the drum that Mahomes was a top 10 talent his whole last year at Tech.

You also know how much I went to bat for Mahomes on the MSB & Saints Talk especially when it really looked like Payton was about to his QB for life after Brees despite all the negative talk about Mahomes being a "system QB".

As far as Herbert goes, I don't get the same feeling about Herbert. Mahomes was "breed" & groomed since a very early age to play professional sports. At young age, he understood the unseen intangibles it takes to be great as well as the hard work it takes behind the scenes. Herbert heart seems to be elsewhere. He's an intelligent kid with a strong future in medicine which has taken away some of down time to put in the work to be great. The flaws in his game can be directly pointed to trying to split time in attempt to be great both academically & athletically.

See my post I just made on Saints Talk about Herbert.

One could argue Mahomes played in an offense that utilized his talent much more.

Oregon’s identity is run game and quick passes. We rarely let Herbert air it out. It’s tough to evaluate him because of this. I wouldn’t want him picking too 15 but if I’m NO, NE, etc I’d take a second look at him.

As did I. I’m not really an Hebert guy, this is more of a story about how QB vetting is hard for professionals much less Tigerdroppings

I think it says a lot that , as a Sr. QB, they only trusted him to throw it 20 times in a major bowl game against a quality opponent.

I posted something similar in the game thread.

I don’t get why people hype the kid.

Me either. He's a good kid though with life options. He's in a win-win situation regardless.

QB vetting is hard

It is very hard if you don't dig & research or watch enough games. The average poster doesn't or if they do, they don't understand what exactly to look for. I'm not saying I'm not perfect at it either (no one is) but I do a ton of research before I dropped a detailed post on a player.

If you study the complete history of the NFL Draft (there many wild stories) & a lot of the thought process in drafting QBs, you would be amazed at how clueless many front office's are when it comes to drafting QBs. Many completely ignore the work done by the league scouting services (Blesto & National) as well as their own in house scouts.

You have to understand that owners made their livings outside of football. Many of them bring in personnel from their billion dollar corporations to serve in front office positions. These owners & front office many times draft QBs on gut instinct, a flip of a coin, advice from a bum on the corner or being able to sell tickets off a QBs name. The owners who really are into winning surround themselves with the best personnel who have backgrounds in the sport.
