Eh, he got Peyton because Ole Miss was in hot water with the NCAA at the time, plus Cutcliffe.

Oklahoma already went through this phase, post Switzer.

They figured out the hiring and innovating side of things, and have moved forward from there- something other programs have struggled to do.

OU has always had a pipeline from Cali to go along with all of the ones they get out of TX.

Luck!!

No one could predict back to back hiring successes with coaches that came from coordinator jobs with no HC experience.

I laugh when all these helmet programs will only hire someone with proven HC experience. Sometimes you end up with an expensive retread.

Fairbanks and Switzer never had HC experience either

No HC but Schnellenberger had HC experience when hired at OU in 70 years

Schnellenberger was a disaster and literally killed a kid because they wouldn’t allow water breaks. Thankfully for OU he took the hint and left

Oklahoma and Texas have such an advantage over all the other Big 12 schools, I don’t think they’ll ever fade for too long as long as the Big 12 stays in tact

OU sucked in the 90s, so to compare them to two successful teams in that same decade doesn’t seem relevant.
