How good was Alex Rodriguez in his early 20's?

I only started following MLB in 2011 so I didn't get to see A-Rod in his Mariners/rangers days and I was wondering what was watching him play like? In terms of pure talent is he the best you had seen in a while?

Roids plus juice ball era. Plus elite talent.

Best player I have ever seen was Griffey. Frick ARod.

That old Mariners team was legit.
Griffey Jr
A-rod
Jay Buhner
The Martinez Bros
Pretty sure they all played together.

He was amazing, anyone saying anything other than that is saying so for some idiotic reason.

+ Big Unit brah. 97 Mariners were fricking stacked.

The crazy thing about the Mariners is that by 2001, they had lost the Big Unit, ARod and Griffey, yet the 2001 Mariners were still probably the best team since the turn of the century.

A-Rod was basically the LeBron of baseball. Just think about what a rarity LeBron is. He's a 6-9, 265 pound man who could run like a deer, jump out of the gym and can dribble and pass the ball like a point guard. Well, A-Rod was that type of player in baseball. A-Rod was basically a baseball player that could only be created in a video game. Shortstop is a very difficult position to play defensively which is why there have been very great offensive players at that position. A-Rod was a superlative defensive shortstop. He had tremendous range and a great arm. A-Rod was a very good base stealer averaging over 20 stolen bases a year at a near 80% clip. He was an outstanding hitter for average with a career BA of .308 as a shortstop. He had the power of an elite slugging 1B hitting 40+ HRs six consecutive years. If you blended all of the best qualities from all of the best players into one player, you would have A-Rod. The man was a once-in-a-lifetime talent that we'll likely never see again.

15-20 yrs ago was somewhat of a golden age for shortstops in the AL. You had Jeter, ARod, and Nomar. All three were elite level players and 2 of the 3 played in major baseball markets on rival teams. I know ARod and Nomar were juicing (maybe Jeter too, who really knows) but it was great fun to watch those three going at it for best SS in the game. ARod was obviously the best necause of his A+ power, but he could also run, throw, play D and hit for average. He was a true 5 tool player at one time....too bad he was just a weird dude, a cheat, and not very clutch. I do miss turn of the millennia baseball though...it was very fun to watch and follow for numerous reasons.

You failed to mention the greatest defensive SS of that time, Omar.

People thought he was going to shatter Hank Aaron's record.
(Don't come in here and say it's Bonds' record cause it's not)

He was the best infielder in terms of offense and defense and then throw roids on top, basically unfair

The greatest infielder since at least Mike Schmidt.

Tino Martinez went to the Yankees after Mattingly retired in 1995, Paul Sorrento was the 1B for the Mariners after that who they picked up from Cleveland.

It was still Hank Aaron's record back then and, while Bonds was a great player, he wasn't on most people's radar as a big threat to Aaron's record. Most people thought If anyone broke Aaron's record it was going to be A-Rod.

A-Rod was a much better SS than Jeter. If Jeter was the "team first" kinda guy that the NY press fellated him for, he would have moved to 2nd and let A-Rod play SS.
No doubt A-Rod was a weird dude but I almost rooted for him the way the a-hole Yankee fans and NY press treated him.

He was basically the perfect baseball player.
