My point still stands, That is the hardest gear for beginners...

I do that now . The best is when you are forced to valet park and there’s a huddle to see who knows how to drive a stick

I took my last MINI to a service station about five years ago for a state inspection sticker and the inspection technician didn't know how to drive a manual. As for Indy cars, I'm pretty confident I could handle driving one in the 150+ range, maybe pushing close to 200.

Honesty, I think most people would stall it trying to launch it.

I don't think I could fit in the damn thing to start with.

More than once I had to valet park it myself

Are you confusing Indianapolis with Nascar tracks?

I think I could avg 180 per lap. Would be pedal to metal on straights and short chutes but slow way down in corners. The problem with slowing in corners is your straight speed is compromised coming off corners slow in comparison to racers.

I could hit 200+ on a straight away and not be nervous. I've allegedly gone 150+ on a highway not to be named (allegedly).

The other problem is that in corners you need to carry a lot of speed or you won't have the downforce needed for enough grip to actually be able to make the turn.

Downforce scales proportionally with the square of the speed. This means an Indycar car creates massive grip at 200 mph, but significantly less at lower speeds.

I got the chance to do the Nascar experience thing at Talldega, I just made up my mind that I was gonna push the gas pedal until the guy beside gave me the thumbs down to slow a little. Going into that first 36 degree bank at that speed is scary as hell, but once it sticks that first time, the next six laps are amazing. On the certificate I got at the end, the top speed i clocked was 176 or 177 and my best lap time was 59 seconds and change.

No idea the difference in doing it in an Indy Car, but I suspect lots of folks could at least manage 160-170 for sure.

Yeah that’s not Indy

Maybe not. But the go cart I was in at astroworld didn't have any brakes and had to run into a wall to stop. If that doesn't scream growing up gen X.

In my simulator at home I manage 210 - 215. So I'm good at 200 mph.

You still need the clutch to take off in first gear. The clutch actuator is on the steering wheel.
