His lack of arm strength is a byproduct of systemic racism.

He can probably still throw it 60 yards if he steps into it and really launches one, but it doesn't look like he can throw downfield with any zip on his throws anymore. DBs have time to recover and get in position.

Someone might need to make one of these for Brees soon if he doesn't improve:

He’d finish last if they still did the quarterback challenge with the blue chalk balls

It was 35 yards. 1-2 on passes over 20 yds against the Bucs

LINK

ETA: 0-1 against the Raiders

Btw people grossly overrate and misunderstand the importance of deep ball passing and how often deep ball passing occurs and use it to confirm biases they have vs certain QBs

Brees for example, is last or close to last in a lot of advanced metrics that try to gauge deep ball passing, things like air Yards to the sticks (Last), average Intended Air Yards (Last), Average Completed Air Yards (2nd to last behind darnold)

All that sounds really bad right??

Well take those same stats for one Patrick Mahommes III for 2020

Air yards to the sticks (2nd to last behind Brees)
Average intended Air Yards (3rd to last behind Brees and Darnold)
Average completed Air Yardage ( 10th to last)

And yet no one is going to call Mahommes a dink and dunk passer. Instead he’ll get credit for taking what the defense gives him as he matures as a young QB

The worrisome part for Brees isn’t the 20 plus yarders, the problem is the short and intermediate accuracy on some gimme throws that are shanking. He had a TD to Sanders in week 1 on a shallow cross that he just fudged the throw. When that starts to go, then that’s when it’s time to worry

Im more concerned that he has no zip on his passes and he’s missing easy intermediate throws.

This

It's helpful to be able to throw really deep but not necessary(but yes, 4.82 air yards won't cut it but that's not the point)

The zip on the short passes isn't there, and the most concerning thing of all IMO is the accuracy. On the short passes, he's not nearly as accurate as he usually is.

sounds about right and at that distance 70% accuracy

in live action in game 35 yards and 50% accuracy

drews main issue is lack of velocity so defenders have time to cut off routes and step in front to intercept them, thats why you will only see 5-10 yard passes from now on unless a guy breaks wide open for an easy low velocity lob pass

It's obvious that Drew has been ridden too far. He is not a number 1 NFL QB anymore. He can only make 30% of the throws.

The real question is, how far will Malcolm Jenkins let him throw?
