Very few black assistants are viewed this way. Bienemy isn't even viewed as the guy running the KC offense much less architecting it. Pretty much everyone knows Reid is the brains behind that organization.
That doesn't mean he can't do it. It just means that he's not viewed that way, nor should he be.
Everyone wants a Sean Payton type of coach right now instead of a Bill Parcells type.
This is the answer.
Most of the people calling plays today are 30-something white guys.
So when an owner wants to make a splashy offensive side hire most AA's are off the table.
Why is for others to answer but this is what's at it's root.

The % of players is irrelevant because it is two completely different skill sets as evidences by there being zero correlation between playing success and coaching success.

There are 4 head coaches in the league that are minorities. There are 32 teams in the league. That means blacks or minorities are 12.5 percent of the head coaches. Blacks make up around 13 percent of the population of the United States. There's no lack of minorities in NFL.

You know what, I do not give a shite about black people's problems. With the trillions in set asides and money they have received starting when I was about 10 they should have solved them by now. Since they have not I cannot do anything for them.

I like these discussions. Simple fact, the top likes to dictate programs the rest of us need to follow. Tell everyone we need to act a certain way, yet they have little diversity in board rooms, professional coaching, etc.

The majority of success of a coach is the ownership, GM, etc. doing their jobs at a high level, and giving the coach years to grow into their job. Just kidding, it's mostly about having an elite QB.
