Ok. Does that make him the architect and brains of New Orleans' offense?

NFL owners are mostly businessmen, so they will always hire the best candidate regardless of color. It's a silly discussion.

The fact is that almost all head coaches are fired. So I would contend that most head coaches are “failures” if the metrics are Super Bowls or long tenures. So I don’t think it’s fair to just look at percentage of those successes.

And failures have shorter careers which skews the numbers even more toward them.

Ignore race totally that's pretty naive. You think all these coaches' kids automatically have intro jobs onto coaching staffs because they're the best candidates?

Yes. Even though whites outnumber blacks 10:1, the black population is more athletically gifted 7 out of 10 times, compared to their white counterpart.

Yes, but because black folks make up 10 percent of the population, you may only get three black HCs in the league at once.

Rooney rule is racist. It forces you to interview a minority rather than most qualified...and some hires just weren't qualified

Eta:minorities should push for the elimination of the rule. How embarrassing is it to know that you are being flown in to some of these interviews because the owner has to interview a minority. Its a slap in the face to some of these guys that work their arse off

Who cares. If you can do the job you get the job. Don’t care about this whole minority representation. I’m going with the best candidate. Not the white or black candidate.

I think coaching is just a profession that historically has had less black men involved at the high levels- including position coaches and stuff. Some of that could be like old school racist head coaches not giving them a shot until recently. I dunno. But there’s not a ton of experienced position or assistant coaches that can rise up IMO. The first step is to just have more assistant black coaches and then more HCs will happen naturally. We just want the best people to do the job and there will be black coaches who can fill that if they just get more chances to prove their meddle. We shouldn’t hire unqualified people just because they’re black.

You will see more black head coaches in the future as there are more and more black quarterbacks these days. Quarterbacks become head coaches more than any other position. Same with baseball and how a lack of black catchers has lead to a lack of black managers. This isn’t the only thing in this complex issue but it is part of it.

You can add Mike Singletary to your list. Terry Robiskie was an interim head coach at CLE.

If they want true equality in coaching, why aren't there any women coaches? I would love to see a huge push for that, just as a counter to really piss off those pushing a false narrative..

Owners want to win games. To bring race into it is well, racist.

This makes no sense.

Will we not be satisfied until every pro league is made up of 100% black players, black coaches, black GM, etc?

So you think blacks are more physically gifted, and at least as intelligently gifted? That makes you a literal black supremacist.

The media always focuses on HC's, but go look at the entry-level positions. Most GA's, quality control interns, etc, are white. And very few of them will ever make it to HC, let alone be considered a "success."

I do think it's tough for players who have had some success at a high level to turn around and go into one of those entry level coaching positions. I remember an interview w/ one former Cowboy on why he quit coaching (not black, btw), and it was basically because you go from being a well-known player who can talk to anyone, to be being a bottom-rung coach that NO ONE listens to.

ETA: So the majority of players are probably not seriously interested in that career change, no matter what race they are.

All races are equal but whites are the least talented.

Let me ask you a question.

Why are there not more white NBA players?

I'm assuming you'd say "white dudes aren't as good", which is accurate.

As a white man I recognize that.

Can that logic not be used here?

Or is that racist?
