I get the sentiment. It’s a crime of sheer stupidity and arrogance rather than actual malice. I was so inconceivably stupid at his age that I do “feel bad” for him. I can’t imagine if I had been given an 8 figure contract and had people asking me for pictures and autographs on top of that.

IMO I think you can feel bad for the horrible circumstances of Ruggs making a single poor choice that has now ruined so many lives but also recognize that there are consequences for that choice. And it’s even more frustrating knowing he had options to avoid the situation. The NFL has a ride service. He was in a major city with multiple ride services as well. Someone else could’ve taken him home.

Ruggs making a single poor choice

Does anyone here believe it’s the first time he’s behaved recklessly on the roads?

I do feel bad for humans who ruin their lives particularly when they’re not evil people. It’s shitty. But he did what he did and someone has to pay the price for that poor lady losing her life.

That wasn’t what I was suggesting.

Was just pointing out that all it takes is one single poor choice to ruin so many lives. And one that was preventable.

Unfortunately, it was the implication even if not intention. Going 156 drunk is the product of likely a very large number of bad decisions where he has been pretty lucky up until today.

All it takes is one choice but this isn’t the case to make that point.

Don’t know why some people feel the incessant need to make everything black and white.

No one is defending Ruggs or advocating for him. You can acknowledge that what he did was absolutely terrible and he deserves to be punished, and also feel bad for him because he’s a loser in this situation too.

Why should anyone feel bad that he’s a “loser” in this situation? Isn’t that how it should be? Should there be a winner? He didn’t just get randomly picked for this to happen to. She did, though.

He's going away for a long, long time. Some 18 year old kid in Florida got 24 years for killing a mother and daughter in an accident, he was drag racing but sober. Factor in the slow, painful death of Ruggs' victim, the fact that he was drunk, and the fact that he was driving beyond recklessly, it has to be more than 24.

That video shows the immediate reaction/remorse from Ruggs. He knew his career was over and that girl was dead.

Apparently they were street racing with a group of friends who were in another car. Would explain the speed.

You'd be right if the justice system were rational and consistent.

But he will have very expensive lawyers

They probably had drunk thoughts of “oh, this street isn’t gonna have anyone on it at 3:40am on a Monday”. It was also close to his house, so who knows how many times he has done this with no consequence when nobody was on the road. This time, there was, and you see the result.

Apparently quite a bit, there was a vid on his girlfriends YouTube now removed, from a year ago where he is flying in that car calling it a rocket and she's scared telling him to slow down over n over.

He clearly drove that thing fast all over for the most part it seems.

yikes.....

not saying you have to pity the crime or stupidity of it all but it is sad to see someone clearly realizing just how badly they've fricked up and there's absolutely nothing they can do about it

I feel like if he was street racing others they all need to face the same sentence as him as they are also responsible.
