Hopefully the family of Tintor can not only go after Ruggs’ assets but the insurance as well, if he had any.

Probably more upset that

Reaction, sure. Not sure I believe he is remorseful right away.

not persecuting him, or advocating for him....but just a question:
what kind of dumb shite did we do as a 22 year old and how lucky were we?
terrible situation

agreed. I never went 156 in a vehicle. Only times I’ve hit triple digits were sober.

I don't think anyone has to feel anything they don't want to.
I'm in the camp that feels sad about the entire situation. Sad that someone lost their life in such a painful way by complete randomness. Sad that a mother and father lost their daughter. And I feel sad that someone exercised incredibly poor judgment that resulted in one person's death but also affected the deceased's family and his own family for the rest of their lives.
I don't think anyone has to justify why they feel sad vs angry. Both are appropriate reactions to this type of news.

quote:Yesterday, doing 70 on US 75 in Dallas near downtown, I had about 35' between me and the car in front and the car to my right was just ahead of me. Between the car on the right and car in front was a space of about 18'.
He said as he was driving 150+ mph. Is this the same mentality as those people zig zagging in morning traffic going 100+?
A guy in a Honda Type R came roaring in from my left at a speed of between 85-90mph, zipped in front of me and in a split second went right through that 18' gap.
One foot forward he would have clipped car in front of me and it would have been bad. One foot backwards and he would have clipped the front of the car to my right.
It was an amazing feat but the most incredibly stupid piece of driving I've ever witnessed.

All of this
I don’t know Ruggs, no idea if he’s a good person or not. Either way, he made a horrid decision and will now pay for it. That’s sad for him and his family. Doesn’t excuse anything but you can still be bummed about a 20 something year old losing everything over 1 decision.
Sympathy for the victims goes without saying. It’s just tragic.

I’m going to go way out on a limb and say he’s made similar decisions before and this is just the first time he’s felt the consequences.
And if this isn’t his first time ever making that decision I’m comfortable saying he’s not a good person.

I’ve done incredibly dumb stuff and gotten lucky… and this is still an order of magnitude worse than my worst.

You can assume that. I don’t know the answer and neither do you. So whatever

You think most people go from going 5 over the limit to 156 as their first time being reckless? And by most people I mean literally anyone.
What odds do you put on him never taking that ride triple digits before? 1 in a million? Billion?

I was talking more about the drunk driving.

It would take him being an incredible outlier in behavior to believe he hadn’t put innocent lives at risk for his own fun many times
I’m ok saying I don’t believe he’s a good person and that it’s unacceptable. I believe our society would be better off loudly and directly condemning these behaviors instead of trying to soften the edges around it.
Sure, I also believe he should get a fair trial, and opportunities after he serves his time.
But Henry Ruggs right now is a POS that has a long road to redemption and it’s about 99.999999% certain that it’s about more than one decision and just a matter of this being the first time he’s going to be held to account on reckless behavior.
