I don’t think many people aren’t condemning. I also don’t think having sympathy for someone besides the victim is softening any edge.

It’s ok and normal to have mixed feelings about a situation like this. But I don’t think anyone, certainly not me, is saying eh mistakes happen, no biggie.

I still cringe at the few times when I decided to drive after a few drinks back in the day. I certainly never considered going anywhere near over the speed limit. It’s hard to imagine what he was thinking.

Yesterday, doing 70 on US 75 in Dallas near downtown, I had about 35' between me and the car in front and the car to my right was just ahead of me. Between the car on the right and car in front was a space of about 18'.

A guy in a Honda Type R came roaring in from my left at a speed of between 85-90mph, zipped in front of me and in a split second went right through that 18' gap.

One foot forward he would have clipped car in front of me and it would have been bad. One foot backwards and he would have clipped the front of the car to my left.

It was an amazing feat but the most incredibly stupid piece of driving I've ever witnessed.

This was a few years ago but I was driving down I-10 at night Eastbound in Baton Rouge. It's 3 lanes in the part I was at, my exit was Siegen but generally I stay in the center lane until I get close to my exit. I passed up the mall exit and checked around to make sure it was safe to merge in the right lane, it was late so not many people on the road, behind me the closest car I saw was way behind me looked at pretty much the Bluebonnet exit so it should have been no problem getting over. I turn my signal on and merge into the right lane, and once I finished merging I look in my rearview and I see the car way closer to me all of a sudden and he changed lanes to pass right by me, and when I tell you that guy was going so fast, the force of him simply passing me made my car feel like it was being sucked back into the center lane and then boom he was so far ahead I didn't even have time to register what the frick happened.

Keep in mind this is the interstate, I was going a good 75 or so. So for him to catch up that quick and leave me in the dust like that, he was likely going 150+ too just like Ruggs. Only this guy I guess changed lanes in time to not hit me, but I can imagine the guy that missed me probably was cursing me out too for getting in the right lane "in his way".

Crazy you say that as may be what happened here, per his GF Ruggs' last words before impact were "what is this guy doing?". Very well could have changed lanes unfortunately and with Ruggs going that fast no chance.

what kind of dumb shite did we do as a 22 year old and how lucky were we?

I did plenty of dumb shite as a kid. Never did I get behind the wheel drunk and drive 160 mph on a street

Yeah, I get being drunk impairs judgement but some things are just so obviously crazy that even drunk you knows better than to try it.

That's why there's not an epidemic of people jumping off of 20th floor balconies after having a few shots.

Even if you’re right that’s a pretty weird thing to assume

As someone pointed out his car is on the correct side of the road and the other is not.

Possibly the stupidest fricking comment in this WHOLE section.

Surveillance video of Ruggs corvette speeding moments before the crash

Goddamn those other cars are easily visible and his car is just a blur. And that road was a lot busier than I would have expected that early in the morning so it's not like he was blasting down some deserted city street.

The fact his girlfriend even said that like it’s some kind of defense is remarkable. frick her too. In this video she seemed to have absolutely no care for the person burning alive.

They are awful for what they did and likely did many times.

I have a hard time heavily judging someone that just rolled out of a car that hit something doing 130 mph while drunk. They aren’t going to be in any shape to be meaningfully present in that moment. Their brain is going to be a mess of misfiring signals

It was still a silly comment. We knew a high speed collision had occurred. Trying to place any blame or fault based on the position of the cars after the crash was silly.

We didn't even know who was dead yet, who caused the crash, or anything, so no not really.

Hell I'm pretty sure the first reports said it was a head on collision so actually made more sense at the time.

I never went 156 in a vehicle. Only times I’ve hit triple digits were sober.

And hopefully not on residential streets, which is uber dumb af and criminally negligent.
