Has officiating in the NFL gotten worse?

This last drive in the Chiefs-Packers game, the refs clearly missed 3 calls and none were particularly close at all. First was a hit on Mahomes in bounds which they threw the flag on the packers for a late hit, next was a clear pass interference against MVS that wasn’t called, then forward progress was stopped as the chiefs receiver was trying to go out of bounds yet they stopped the clock. Thats not even mentioning the pass interference on the Hail Mary that’s never called. Every play on that drive had a bad call. I don’t recall officiating ever being this bad.

I think with more passing and athletes and the game moving faster, yes it’s gotten way worse because it harder.

It’s really bad now

They absolutely need to go to a ref in the booth watching the all 22 with a buzzer. Wouldn’t take time and would make a huge difference

The fight to not make it obvious leads to these late game blown calls. The ‘late hit’ call put them in panic mode. Everyone knows if you cheat on a test, don’t make a 100.

Agree 100%. And as much as I hated Goodell in the past, he's been pretty good about fostering change with things like this.

that's bullshite. It's worse because the NFL has an incentive to keep games close and increase ratings to make more money. It's intentional with a side of diversity in hiring practices.

As sports gambling grows, so will terrible refereeing. Tim Donaghy ain’t the only Tim Donaghy out there.

It depends on your point of view. It’s like the Biden administration saying the Border is secure. It is secure for the cartels to move illegals across the border.
The referees are a part of the show. They are there as participants to further overall story of the season as laid out by league executives. Remember, it’s entertainment, not a pure sport, and everyone involved works for the same company- the National Football League. The objective is making money and there’s nothing wrong with that.
I just can’t believe they allow betting.

It’s a lot easier to officiate when there are only 40 total pass attempts and you can hit the qb high and low etc

I’ve never really subscribed to the NFL being scripted. Never attribute to malice that which can be explained by incompetence. But then I think there’s no way they’re this incompetent and wrong as often as they are.

I don’t think it’s exactly scripted but I think it’s strongly influenced by referees calls and no calls.

I think people would be shocked how fricking fast the game is moving on field level. It’s insane. But with modern technology there is no excuse. An all 22 buzzer ref would have had every single one of those missed calls in the last minute corrected with no real time wasted

I gotta go with incompetence because if it was straight rigged the Cowboys would've been in at least 1 SB in about 3 decades.

That was a good "no call" on the first PI. I don't care if the defender hit the receiver before the ball got there. The defender has just as much of a right to the ball as the receiver. He was looking at the ball the whole time (as evidenced by his perfectly knocking the ball down before it reached the WRs hands). If KC wants to avoid the situation, throw the ball in a location where the WR can get to the ball before the CB.

By your logic all defenders can just knocks receivers to the ground as long as they’re moving in the direction of the ball.

An all 22 ref by rule would have to buzz the ref without taking a timeout to review. I feel confident that could have happened for all 3 missed calls tonight in the last minute
