Despite what others say, they still won back-to-back by virtue of these…. and they carried the same weight as the Crystal Football.

Time to move on from 2003, 2004. No one gives a shite about the NCAA...we all saw the games...especially now with NIL. Their vacated title is just a Wikipedia note.
And they shared the title in 2003 just like Nebraska and Michigan in 1997...and many teams before.

Players paid, hopping around from farm system to farm system. Yet NCAA still trying to enforce rules from a bygone era. I mean they went after Harbaugh for buying a recruit a hamburger. What a clown world CFB has become. Like trying to fight WWI with Civil War strategy.

Both scenarios would be based on the assumption Harbaugh would’ve preferred to stay at Michigan and is ultimately having to leave in spite of that.
I’m not so sure. Harbaugh has always seemed to strike me as a bit of a rolling stone type. I think part of him feeds off of change and newness. I think Michigan was nearing about the max amount of time he could’ve stayed content at one place because it was his alma mater and he wanted to bring it a championship.
He’ll turn the Chargers into a winning team but I wouldn’t anticipate him staying with them in the same capacity for as long as his brother has stayed with the Ravens.
ETA: which would make him about 80 so of course not!, lol. But that obviousness aside, I could see Harbaugh being there about 5-6 years then moving on to his next challenge.

I remember hearing that his SF team had had just about enough of his shite when he left the NFL.

There was a little bit of a power struggle with the GM that probably fueled some reasonable discontent but yeah…ownership, front office, and players all started to tune him out, despite 3 of those 4 seasons seeing the NFCCG. Mutually agreeing to part ways after his success was wild
College was probably best fit given he was the boss and college kids would respond to his style better. I don’t think he’ll be a total failure in SD, but if his tenure in SF lasted for 2-3 more seasons I think we would have a very different perspective of him as an NFL coach

You can go to the NFL, still make a fortune and just focus on coaching and not the complete circus that CFB has turned into.

Karma dictates that Harbaugh will throw some hissy fit with the Chargers front office, quit, and become head coach at Ohio State.
